All,

I am sure this has been beat to death, but a lot of the threads are old. Here is what is being worked on.

25yo+ 1HZ equipped truck imported into a state where plates will be easy enough to get. Then eventually the truck might be brought to california.

If I have US title with diesel labeled, can I reg in cali if its not a CARB tested?

(links appreciated as well as answers :D - thank you and thanks for your patience)

Well, I'm in the process of doing this right now. I'll post up once it's registered. HJZ-81.

If it is a pickup, you will need a weight certificate, as it will be registered as commercial. Otherwise, if registered in another state before, you should be GTG. The issues previously have been when directly importing to California from another country.

...and be prepared to show any sales tax you paid when you purchased vehicle. California will make you pay sales tax at the rate in affect at the address the vehicle will be registered at. You get a credit for any amount of tax you paid where purchased.

If you can show it was kept out of CA for 6 months after you made purchase, they can not collect any tax!

In LA County it's now 9%, soon to be 9.25%!
