You need a snap ring pliers and a 54mm socket. If you do this, you will have to remove the inner and outer bearings. This will give you the front bearing repack. Its not that hard. Just a few seals from C Dan. BUT, if you don't know when your Front Axle was redone, then your half way there. You have to remove the rotors to repack the bearings and redo the front axle. Do them both, and you won't have to worry about the front brakes or axles for 4-5 years at least.

Fimd someone on this board near you who can advise you. I tore mine completely down using the FSM before MBrodis came over to help me put it back together. I could have done it my self, but the company was nice. Plan on a weekend.
 
No special tools are needed to remove the rotors from the hub once you have removed the hub from the spindle. Just 6 bolts to get the rotor off.
