Howdy folks,

Kind of a question and possibly a proposition if you're interested.

1. I work at a camp in Mesachie Lake and we are having a Women's Retreat which needs to find rides up to the Bolduc Plane Crash site on MAY 23rd. We are probably going to need half a dozen or more vehicles (depending on seating capacity). I went up the other week with a few of our staff and they all complained about how terrible a ride it was in my truck (SOA, 35's). I did NOT air down, so maybe that would help? I had no issues of spitting rocks or breakaway so I didn't air down, but I'm wondering how much, if any, that could help the ride quality?

2. IF airing down would help dramatically, then myself and other type vehicles could be used for the event. The director of the retreat knows we need SUV's for the trip, but doesn't want the ladies to need chiropractic appointments afterwards! So, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

3. We are potentially looking for a solid number of people with suitable vehicles for this expedition. Fuel costs might be covered (haven't asked yet), and gentlemanly chaperones (even if they have to fake it for a few hours ;)) are preferred.

So...any thoughts? Maybe we should make it our own expedition and see if the ladies want to join ;)

PS: I have on-board air now so re-inflating tires should be easy!

Yes, airing down makes a huge difference. Air your truck down to about 15 and then take a couple of
the people back up there, see if they notice a difference. They will.
Sorry, I'm not home or I'd offer up my wagon

I also air down on the logging roads. Makes a HUGE difference. I run high pressure because I have skinny tires (45-50psi), and I air down about 15-20psi from that (down to 30-35 psi or so) for basic logging roads. I glide over potholes like they're not there. I think the coils help a bit too. I'll go down to 15-20psi for gnarly wheeling only.

Sounds like a fun trip, I may be able to help. I'll talk to SWMBO and see what the plans are for the 23rd.

I'll be willing to help out, but not sure how people will fair with a free tetanus shot before getting in my cruiser!

Franken60, I picked up that Titan compressor off ebay for $145...haven't actually used it to inflate my tires yet, but it seems to be a pretty happy little machine for that price!

franken60; you're welcome to borrow my Titan compressor some time if you want to try out airing down.

PeeZed, as much as I'd like to help, looks like it won't work that day. My wife is working, so I'll taking care of our kids. Sorry man.

May 23'rd? Im leaving for the ship on the 26th! I am so down for helping out on this!

Still waiting to hear back from the organizer if they are wanting a Cruiser Club to be the chaperones for the event. Thanks for those who have volunteered...I hope to give a yes or no within days. If it doesn't work out, then perhaps there's something else we could do?

UPDATE: It's a GO!

There will be around 20 women needing a ride up to the Plane Crash Site.

I CAN take 4 passengers and myself, but I'm not sure if having three across the bench in the back is better than just two or not? It's not me back there so my opinion doesn't really matter, and if we need to squish then so be it.

Soooooooo...Who's in? We will probably need another 5-6 vehicles total. Please though, don't feel pressured as the organizer realizes that this is somewhat last minute and if we can't make it happen then that's life.

I will know soon whether or not we are able to reimburse you for fuel and what the departure and return times are expected to be.

I will personally give out as much free on-board air as anyone wants however ;)

How is the trail? Guaranteed 4wd? Or will be able to rock a steady 2wd in low range?

I went up over a month ago so don't know if any changes occurred because of rain. I found that without airing the tires down there were a few places that articulated enough at very slow speeds meant I engaged 4-low to attempt a smoother ride for my passengers and to save the tires from breaking gravel. But that's just one or two 100' spots.

I did wish I had a turbo as a few places were just steep enough that I needed to gear down from 2nd into 1st, which I think with a turbo would've helped to maintain speed.

Ok right on, I've been super lazy about attacking my front end with new parts, so my 4wd isn't quite right, but works enough to get through the odd spot

UPDATE #2: I'm an idiot. I made the assumption that the 23rd (because it was a Saturday) was the date, but apparently it's the 22nd (Friday). Thus, I'm assuming most people are working that day, which makes me wonder why they planned it that way for vehicle plausibility, but nonetheless, I've been duped.

So....if Friday works for any of you, then great. Otherwise, my apologies for wasting your time! Maybe it's time to invest in a Troopie :meh:
