My buddy's brother is in-town from Chicago and we had planned to go desert shooting tomorrow at the same spot we have gone to for years (New River Rd north of Carefree Highway).

Apparently the BLM has just received their backorder of "No Shooting" signs and have posted them absolutely everywhere. Every spot I know of was checked and they are all now posted.

Has anyone visited a spot recently to do some target shooting that they know is NOT posted? Prefer north valley but I guess we are willing to drive a bit at this point.

Please let me know, it would be a big help to my buddy as he planned this outing for months.

Thanks...

I usually go down To Bumble Bee Rd exit. There's tons of great spots for shooting down there.

The only approved shooting locations in that general area is Table Mesa Rd, WEST of I17, as long as you drive in far enough. Youll see the signs posted and there are plenty of pullouts. Being damn clear on this, go WEST of I17, because going East puts you on State Trust Land, and is trouble. Also be aware that the area is truly the wild, wild west and you need to stay vigilant and watch your back out there. Don't go alone, and consider Ben Avery Shooting Facility, as $7/day is a cheap investment, and supports the range.

So went out to the spot that LCP suggested. Went north at 74 @ N. Christian Church Camp Road. Went until the road ended and a dirt trail began. Like LongDuck said it was the Wild West out there. The first thing you run into is a shooting range that has a road going through/behind it. They yelled "CAR" each time a car came like they were playing street hockey. We decided to keep going at the sight of that...

We went about another 2-3 miles up the dirt road/wash to the west until we found a nice quiet area with a big mountain backstop that showed signs of it being used recently as a range. Wound up being perfect for us with both short and long range target setups.

Here is the spot on the map if anyone is interested in the future. 33.861541, -112.358027

Looks like a good setup, and hope you weren't packing out a lot of shooter trash from others who were there before you. My favorite runs are sandy washbeds which are flat and fast, which looks a lot like the area you found. If you head out there again, PM me (or post a thread) and I'd like to go along.

scary that some people dont understand the concept of a proper backstop when shooting!

One of my biggest pet peeves! Beyond of the tard!!

A brilliant way to areas get closed to shooting and swing voters to support asinine gun laws.

ARGHHHHH!!!!!!

Next on the list is when you pull into a remote campsite late at night, after hours of driving, only to find litter everywhere, of course along with the requisite piles of s**t (with toilet paper strewn around) surrounding the fire ring.

Classy...

ARGHHH!!!!!!!

I guess if we all try really hard we can eventually educate the masses who inadvertently end up ruining stuff for other folks, same with people who trash trails and then bitch about areas being closed to off road-travel.

one of the few benefits of living in a small town...elzy pearson range. Free, somewhat civilized and only 12 min from work!

just throwing that out there....in case there was going to be a Casa Grande monthly meeting to host both the Phoenix and Tucson chapters.
