Drove mine past Moab on to Pheonix Arizona, and back... Don't know what your problem is. Mine I'll run 65 all day, night, and the next day without a rest. (And that was before 33s and 3.70 gears.)
 
had a look at that 74, is going to need some attention to the typical 70/74 rusty wheelwells, rockers and doors are starting to go. Windshield frame also has holes. A few more little things but all in all, a good solid driving truck. The owner is a good guy and has priced it pretty fair.

If it gets cheaper, one could put the BJ74 engine/trans into a rust free LJ78 with a blown 2LTE. Would make for a comfy and reliable rig. Left over parts could be sold to recover some of the costs.
