hi every one this is my first post in the world's best Toyota forum!!! I am relatively new
to the Ownership Of Landcruiser but i have a question and I Would appreciate Some feed back•
a year ago I bought my first bj 74 13 Bt engine manual transmission 300,000 km on
the Clock and no issues at all. The truck pulled like it was new. That One i sold and bought myself
a mint One Owner 1988 bJ 74 13 bt engine automatic. 170,000 km on the Clock and Very well tAken care of. Here Comes my question..... The auto Seems Much Slower than the manual and the low end torque I felt with the manual is virtually non existent in the auto• They both ran the same 33" tires- and the gears shift reasonably well...does any One know if its normal to feel a difference in power between the two gear boxes? or should i start worrying? Thanks everyone for your time.

Normal ..... The auto gearbox is very uninspired. :)
An aux. transmission cooler is a good investment.

thanks man. had a fright after my first drive to be honest. is it low on power in 4L as Well? or is itSufficiently powerful for most terrain challenges? thanks

Nice rig, I don't have any experience with a manual 13bt, I have the auto like yours, I don't have any issues with lack of power. Although more power wouldn't hurt.
Automatic gear boxes will normally use a little more power than a manual as you need to pump the tranny fluid to get it to work.

hey guys thanks all for the replies..i will upload more pics soon. tires are 285 75 r 16 insa turbo special track. they are well worth their prices. cheap tire and perform reasonably well on most terrains.. noisy on the road though!!:) as far as my gear box is concerned...im on the look out for a manual unit...any power upgrades you guysdid to the 13 bt? or is stock best?

PLenty of info on this forum on more power for the 13bt, cicak has a good one waiting for dyno figures on his thread

Yup collect it tomorrow was started today road test this arvo. surgeon ses collect tomorrow. Dyno will be late next month have a kayak trip to finish first. I expect 450nm of torque mininum from it at 2100rpm.

Do some more searching on the forum. I believe their is an extreme valve body for your auto transmission that would give you a little more snap to the shifts. Also search the diesel section their is a good thread on making more horsepower out of the 13 BT

My first was an auto, a tad sluggish , I now have with 5 speed, it's more fun, and you can drive it, more pull with 5 speed no doubt, The auto was great when off road steep climbing,

Driving an auto gearbox is like eating spinach when you were a kid. It's terrible at first but given time you actually start to enjoy it. If I need to accelerate more quickly I simply shift it manually. :)

*Disclaimer..... I am old and lazy.
