BJ60 DD Slow overhaul

You can see from the pics the wiring harness etc. sticking into the bay. After the cruisercrap I installed and removed the dash components. I did this a couple of times as I discovered missing functions ;)

Here is the engine heading to the shop for a complete rebuild. New high nickel head and the rebuild kit from Engines Australia. Eventually, the shop discovered a tweaked con rod. I could barely see the bend but it was enough to score the crank. Also, the oil pan has lots of holes. I haven't seen it yet but no surprise there.

Snapped a pic of a sweet FJ60( I think it was an 83? can't remember what the owner said) while traveling along the gorge. I like the RTT.

Here is a pic of the scored crankshaft? I'm not up on my engine terminology. I thought I had taken a picture of the connecting rod but can't find it. This was during bow-hunting season and I kept being reminded how useful a Landy would be. My mazda sedan got me out but I had to avoid some great areas due to rough trails. And if I had gotten anything I would have to call in favors to borrow a rig. I tried to make up the difference by hiking as deep as I could. I think I ended up hiking over 30 miles during the season. But it was rugged country and some miles were basically vertical. One day my watch informed me I had walked up a hundred flights of stairs. And of course these are trails that elk can run up and down with no problem! Beautiful country.

Nice! Is that a Magolina?(sp?).

A few weeks ago I finally drained the gas tank. I was surprised at how much fuel was in it! I "converted" the nozzle size with a sharpened dowel and hammer until it was the right size ;)

So what is this thing?

After market fuel line heater often used in vegetable oil conversions. junk throw it away one more spot to pull an air bubble into your fuel system.

If you want to do veggie oil the heaters should be wrapped on the injection lines between the pump and injectors.

Those oil pans are getting hard to get your hands on 500$ Canadian last time i had to get one. Don’t throw your old one out the rust holes can be braised easily.

Mounted the 4 wheel drive control and water heater control valve. And broke the heater control cable clips. And broke my spare clips from the FJ. Thought about it a while and came up with solution... should work for now... I’ve got a new job on the east coast starting in February so I need to get this rolling.

Installed rear heater. And modified the seat bracket to allow the seat to fit. (My almost three yr old son took the pic!).

parking brake installed and center console kinda fits. Looks like I’m either missing the bottom section or the body style on the FJ is different enough that I’ve got significant gap on the bottom. The bolts only aligned on one side. Well I wanted to fab a replacement anyway. Another project for another day.

Are you talking about where the parking brake lever hits the parking brake indicator switch? I swapped to a 80s rear with parking brake switch and it was different from the 60s parking brake switch. I’d have to look back on my thread but I had to customize mine to get it to work.

Are you moving?

No. The brake fits fine. It’s the console itself. It’s got a two or three inch gap to the floor. I gave the FJ one away... oh well...

Yes. In January!

Every exposed tube on this project has been mudded over by carpenter bees. None since I moved the project from my dad’s place so it must have been in a bad place. This pic is getting the 4 wheel drive lines cleaned out. I think I have everything cleaned out now.
