Hey all,
I'm looking to start a long-term scratch rebuild of my 82 bj42 and am looking for a decent frame to start with. Then, when I'm ready, I can swap the good parts off my truck without having a ton of down time for my daily driver! Ideally, this new frame will be in solid, salvageable shape with no cracks or severe rot. If you've got a line on something, please let me know! Cheers.

Is the BJ40/42 frame significantly different than the FJ40 frames? Engine mounts the main thing? I don't know much about 40's, but I would assume it's easier to find an FJ40 frame. Good luck in your hunt; hope you find something. Your truck is so nice and clean; nice to see you doing such a good job on it.

The frame rails themselves were the same pretty much forever.

In 79, when they went to the fuel tank being under the tub, they changed the body mounts

in 81 when they went to big eye springs they changed the spring hangers.

dates might be off a bit , but you get the idea.

Really only the s*** they rivetted on that changed.

Is yours a little too crusty for a resto, or are you just looking for the ease of having a fresh frame to build onto?

Aqualu makes frames ....

Haha, I saw that one in Kamloops.. Wish I could justify the cost of the drive to pick it up.. I've seen Sutherland around on various forums.. Maybe I'll get in touch with him! Thanks for the heads up. The Kamloops frame definitely would have the small spring hangers on it, but I'd think they could be gusseted without too much work. I'm sure someone has done that before and could provide direction.

My frame is a little crusty.. Not devastating for the moment, but I don't think I'd like to add any more patching. Tootall helped me with the rear last spring and did a great job, but the front will need some attention in the next few years. Having a new frame in solid shape without patching would be a better start to a brand new truck in my opinion. Would also make it easier to rust proof and seal up with it on a rotisserie in the shop, and could minimize downtime for my cruiser as well if I could prep the new body and axles before swapping crucial parts around.

Still on the hunt for a frame if anyone knows of one. I contacted the Kamloops guy and the frame does indeed have the smaller hangers so my OME suspension won't fit... Shame, as the frame looks to be in good shape. Any lines on an 81+ frame would be awesome.

Good luck finding something, they are hard to find and they will only get harder, might be a good idea to grab the BJ40 frame and custom build the larger hangers for your suspension, $300 is a bargain if the frame is nice.
Cheers,

That's what I was thinking too. Hangers would be a small task compared to fixing a rusty frame.

Good point, but doesn't change the fact that I'd have to get the frame from Kamloops. I actually now have a line for one of the island now.. Scoping it out in a week or so. Now I need a cowl in decent shape... The list goes on.
