You may be right about wheo the batteries are made by. Could be regional too. Believe you are in NY. The AZ desert is extremely hard on batteries. Think since fuel injection replaced carbuetors the cold isn't what it use to be l. Remember the sub zero mornings when the battery would die before you could get a vehicle started. Fuel injection changed that.

I had two Kirkland marine starting batteries from Costco in my boat starting two 454/420 hp engines. The batteries lasted 10 years including running bilge pumps, stereo and sitting in a cold garage for 5-6 months each winter. I topped them off, charged them, disconnected all connections and forgot about them until spring each year. Don't know which of the few manufacturers made the batteries for Costco/Kirkland.

I lived in your area and now live in Arizona. Believe me, the sun / UV here is brutal. I would expect your batteries to last that long.. In Arizona, batteries are expected 3 years , that is all. We should never talk tires as in Arizona they rot and crack and 5 years is all anyone considers anything on them..

Reviving this topic recently for myself looking into battery options as mine has kicked the bucket. I'm hoping anyway that it's not the alternator. So it sat for a couple months at least and the battery is probably 5 years old or more. Putting it to charge it says it's done pretty quickly and then if I try to start it, it does little to nothing. I got it started with a jumper booster pack and it ran for 10 mins or so and then when I turned it off I immediately tried to restart it but it does nothing. Battery right?

So I was thinking about just getting the same replacement but came here to get some more information about which battery to replace it with.

Group 31 Diehard Platinum or Odyssey.

Done. The only hard parts are fitting it in the truck, and lifting that monster.

I believe Source3 here drove his 40 for a few months on one, before realizing we had forgotten to plug in his alternator. Seriously.

It will start our 3B cold about 15 times if the alternator isn't working, safely. Probably good for more than that, but I didn't push it that far.

The optimas were the king of the heap, but DHP/Odyssey wins the cost/power test today.

X2 on re-inventing the wheel.

I run a MotorMaster Eliminator (Canadian Tire house brand) with a 9 year full replacement warrantee and 27 year pro-rated. It's 800 or 900 CCA.

I find that the 8274 is hard on them, probably on all batterys. I am considering a second battery in the truck.

The battery has never failed me on cold (-30C) mornings.

Ok I know this was 13 years ago, but this man's battery is still under warranty from 2011, with 14 years of prorated value remaining! Who in sweet Jesus' name has a 9 year full replacement warranty anymore? Even Toyota "only" has 7 years.

And now for the rest of the story.

In the first three or four years of having the battery I had it replaced twice.
Like I said, a lot of winching.

The third time I went to replace it the model had been discontinued.
So they gave me a better battery that came with the usual 3 year replacement and 9 year prorated warranty.

Well, it was good while it lasted and I feel I got my money's worth.

Did some battery research today. Thought I'd share. Seems like the days of finding good batteries are waning. Everyone wants to sell you a battery every 24 months now so that's becoming more than norm. It's also becoming harder to find batteries that fit the older smaller OEM battery tray...
