I was looking to swap out old, bald Michellins with the BFG T/A KO 285/75/16 and was told they were on backorder (both D and E load). Anyone heard this or have an ETA?

Substitutes?
 
Duratracs x 2. Bought them in Jan this year and have about 8k miles on them so far. They balanced well, quiet on the road, good/decent offroad and good even and barely perceptible wear so far.

There's a real good reason the BFG AT KO's are OFTEN on backorder.

There's a real good reason Nitto's and Goodyear's never are.

All out good tires but there's a reason the KO's outsell any other AT tire year-after-year.

I'd wait it out!
 
:meh: - Meh.... Depending on your environment, and what wheeling you do, don't know why BFG ats are so popular anymore, except that they look cool. Great total mileage due to hard compound, but not that great in wet conditions, they DON"T shed mud for crap, and they tear up on rocks. IMHO, the new Duratraks look great and have gotten great reviews, and are more aggressive than the BFGs. I would put the BFGs on my wifes truck for looks and mileage, considering the duratraks on mine.

For disclosure, I have run the BFGs consistantly since before the remodel when they still had slick sides (Pre KO).
 
I'm very happy with the new 255/85 R16 KM2s on our truck. Effectively the same height and the tread is not as open as on the older BFG MTs. Very low noise and from the little experience in rain so far, a better tire in the wet. I may be hoping for too much for it to be good on ice, but I can deal with it.

I'm glad I went with these, rather than the 285/75s.
 
What about the General Grabber AT2's? These are at the top of my list. Around $150 for a 285 and they get great reviews. Not much different than the BFG AT's.

Right. In the CM prep this year, 3 locals wanted new Nitto T/G 315 tires, all tire store contacts said, national back order. Through the work of a couple of stores/warehouses came up with 8 tires in time to go, one rig had to go on older tires. It worked out for the best, it bent some suspension parts and ripped tire tread off before being repaired, would have sucked to do that on new tires.

A buddy just ordered new MTR/K, yep, national back order. They are on order, so I guess they will be better tires because he is waiting for them?

Try Larkin Bros on S. Van Ness in SF

Just picked up a set of five this week. Cost about $250 per. Wasn't cheap but my last set was good for over 70k miles. Traction was good as well. I love these tires!

Also, they fit in the stock spare tire location as well. It looks tight, but it'll fit!
 
go to sams by the time you pay to mount and figure in lifetime balance and roadhazard no one can beat them. I made the mistake of ordering and getting a (better deal) by the time I paid shipping and mounting did not save a dime and dont have road hazzard or lifatime ballance. Probably had 10 sets bfg always last no complants here and a great looking tire.
 
I personally hate BFG's - too hard of rubber for generally how cold Washington is, the MT tread noise is irritating, and AT versions are a hydroplane nightmare out on HWY 101

I've had/have both generation Goodyear MT-R's & love how soft the rubber is, tread noise is there, but it's just a general hum vs. the BFG MT where I swear you hear each & every treadblock whacking the pavement.

My opinion would be wait however long it takes to get Goodyears.
 
My Taco had BFGs on it when I bought it. They were horrible, noisy and vibrated badly at highway speeds. I kicked them to the curb with half their tread remaining.

My 80 has been on Nittos since day one. Great tires and about $50 less per tire than BFGs.

I've never had a problem with Hydroplaning with the a/t's. I only wish they made them in a 255/85. The don't shed mud, but I have about 85K miles on mine now (lots of hwy).

If you go out to Forks/Aberdeen/Port Angeles, really anything past Crecent lake - you'll not see very many BFG AT's - all the locals hate 'em. I spent a couple summers logging as a kid out in Forks, and I originally had BFG AT's on my work truck, a fullsize GMC Camper Special (1 ton susp. & a 3/4T frame) - it was downright scary at 55 in the rain.

I'm sure the 3T weight of a 80 helps a great deal, but all the same after having a set I can say from experience "never again".

To each their own, if they suit you fine then there you are - that was simply my experience & viewpoint.

On the bright side, you'll never be in competition with me for a set ;P

Interesting, I do spend a bit of time on the OP chasing steelhead and never had a problem. I wonder if there was a slick on the road ? They are a funny tire people either love or hate them. I used to commute from PDX to Seattle and never had a problem even in the "stud ruts" during a heavy DP. I do tend to run them pretty high 42lbs?
