I am thinking absolutely the best color combo that brings out the best in a 60 would be Japanese Disco light. That would be 2 tone Brown/Champagne with Orange on Gold striping :)

Waggoner5,

What is the official color is your HJ61. I think mine is the same color (without the cool turbo pinstripes of course ;) ) but the paint on the hood and roof is so bad it is hard to tell. Also what kind of fenders are those?

Where do you find the paint code?

i'm not ashamed to say it- god i love that rig

Sorry, which one? Japanese Disco? Yes, it's rad...

Voted beige...that's what I've got, and one thing I really like about it is that it seems to weather very well - fades pretty evenly and doesn't get crappy looking when it fades.

Here's a question I've had for a while: what's the color code for Freeborn Red for an FJ62? Or what's the easiest way to get touch-up paint for it? I had no luck at the local dealer when I asked about it...

The cool cruisers site seems to have color codes for all the cruiser models, but they list Freeborn Red only as:
#FJ40, Freeborn Red, Code T-309
Yrs. '72-'79
# Ditzler Code 71999

Is the FJ62's Freeborn red the same as the early FJ40s? Did it change at all over the years? Can I take that code to a paint store and get some touch up paint?

Thanks... sorry if this was semi-off-topic. I vote for red, surprise surprise... blue would be a close second...

Jason

I have never seen a 60 in the same red as a 40. Freeborn Red Code T-309 on my 40 is bright, almost orangy red. Granted most 40s have faded to pink, but out of the can it is a really vibrant red. The red 60s I have seen are much darker.

This thread is worthless without links. :)

When looking at the color code, it comes up as one color. The lighter champagne of 88-90 vintage. I can't remember the exact code but will look at the truck at the end of the week. My old 90 FJ62 is the same color sans stripe kit.

Thee best color is...

At first I thought beige.. then maybe I could settle for white or silver.. I had wanted a lighter color to keep me cool in the desert.. Then I saw a blue one ('86).. didn't like it much at first.. but I must admit it is growing on me.

I don't know if I like the blue more than the beige.. but boy does it have a whole lot more "Toyota Character".. especially with a white painted roof or top half... "Yes Please!"

Red, schmed...

Gumby... I don't see a difference between the red color on 60,s and 40,s... Here's my 60... is it different that the red you're talking about?

PS: the 'reddest' red I have seen on a car is the red that they are using on the new Mustangs - dazzling!

But here are some other interesting colours:

And of course, fire engine red (wonder how it got it's name?)

Godfrey, those greens are horrible! I do like the top yellow one, but would never spray it, since that's the current "it" color here in the U.S..... Everything from F350's to Xterra's are currently painted some hideous shade of "look at me! yellow"...

I love the white! Especially in Arizona during the summer. The dark interior is an oven though, but it would be worse if it had dark paint as well.
