Best spot weld drill bit?

trying to find the best spot weld dirll bit for repalcing floor pans, got a good 200 spot welds to drill and dont want to be fiddling with different bits to get the work done, let me know what you used...!

Quite seriously the best one you can buy. I use a very high end bit from an industrial supply store, but couldn't tell you the brand right off. Money should be no object. I think they're around four bux each. You might be better off with a dedicated spot weld cutting tool from a auto body paint store.

I used a Harbor Freight spot weld remover bit. It is a spring loaded pilot with a 3/8" hole saw around it. The hole saw lasts about 30-40 holes and then you have to flip it and use the other side... You get a total of 60-80 holes per bit unless a tooth breaks.

Only secret I have is to pre drill a hole for the pilot tip. Harbor freight also sells 7/64" drill bits in packs of 10 that were are perfect.

Let's just say I am up to 6+ spot weld remover bits and 40+ drill bits (they break easy if you lay into them).

I picked up a carbide hole saw from partsmaster. You can find them at other places like MSC. I have taken the whole truck apart with no trouble.

It arrived today. I took the Drivers side B-Pillar out for fun. I posted pictures on my Parting thread. They say there is a right tool for the right job.... I am amazed, this thing cuts like butter, I've gotten about 30 welds out pretty quickly.

I have been to Fastenall, Harbor Freight, Lowes and Home Depot and either cannot find anything or anything reasonably. The Snap-On man can get them but does not stock them.

What I have found is $11.00 to $38.00 for each bit in a 3/16" diameter.

i couldnt be happier with my blair (as shown above in reply #9). it works great. Used it to take apart the bed of my 45. I will never take out spotwelds without one.

Me too. With an 1/8 hole drilled through first. Fast too. I did the roof on a 55 in a couple of hours.

Boron Carbide Bits

You can get some really good spot weld drill bits at autobodydrill.com, that is all they sell. Would recommend checking on the newer boron carbide bits they have.
