I found that if you take a piece of berber carpet and put it between the springs and the seat foam on the bottom firms up the seat and makes it more comfortable. I felt like my ass sinking and making my back hurt and this solved my problem. Gie it a try, doesn't cost much or anything for that matter. go to home depot and ask for some samples. good luck

Only problem is that my DS seat is shot. The leather is split open on the bottom and the foam is flat and brittle.

The Corbeau's I got today are actually used, but in good shape. If I don't like them, I'll bite the bullet and get my OE seats repadded and recovered.

Install complete

The seat brackets finally arrived last night and the Corbeau Moabs went in...

My first impression is that I finally own a vehicle that has enough leg room! I'm 6'1, 240lbs and was getting tired of knocking the shifter with my knee! With the Corbeau's installed I actually had to move the seat up a couple of inches! The bolstering is perfect too, not too stiff and not too soft.

Nice, looks like a perfect fit and that seat shape is way better than the 80 stock seat. Give us a long term report when you have some real miles on them.

Where's the long term report gotmud? I'm genuinely curious.... I was looking at the H**P replacement seats also, to see if anything from a Rubicon would fit... Still not sure... I'm going to have to go to Phoenix with at tape measure and the measurements from my 80....

Soo quick q - anyone know if the current model prius seats fit? They are manual and very comfy.

Second question - anyone know if the cushions for the clothe seats are the same as the electric? Doubt it but I'm not sure. If not, anyone know what the manual cushions cost from Dan? (my seats were apparently redone in vynil but have manual controls, so not really sure what I have in there)

The Prius seats are comfy. Long distances are a little weird unless just right sometimes (drove one at work from time to time). Now the 2009 seats from the 4Runner were wonderful for me personally. They also could adjust the tilt of the lower seat section which I love. My two cents if they are worth to anyone.

Good question on the seat cushion parts, know sure (sorry).

Last time I seen Gotmud's rig I thought I seen reupholstered factory seats... I could be wrong.

Tony, you are right.

I had the Moab's in for a few months back in '08. While they were a big improvement over my worn out OEM seats, they sat a little too low for me.

After looking around, I decided on new OEM foam and a leather kit from Shane. I couldn't be happier!

I drive a lot of rental cars for my day job, some of them are pretty nice vehicles. But I truly look forward to getting in my 80 at the airport and driving home. They fit me perfectly; and as Tony can tell you, I'm certainly not a small guy.

If you're on the fence about getting different seats, I think you'll be impressed with how comfortable the 80's seats are when they have new foam and leather.

what was the course for the new foam? My driver seat needs it badly (same spot as all the ones). Wonder if the FJ80 and FZJ80 are any different in foam.

ok one note about these Recaro's for those interested is that they are totally manual adjustment. They are a real performance seat which are almost all manual adjustment. Even the seats in Porsches and Lambos are manual. Just thought this was worth pointing out since some people really want power adjustment.

If you have ever pulled out a full powered adjustable seat and a full adjustable manual seat, you'd know why they went with manual is high end sports cars.

Weight.

A full electronic controlled seat weighs a lot more than a manual one.

Amusingly, same reason the prius is manual (no I don't own a prius just ridden in one)

Has anyone installed a black aftermarket seat in just the driver position? My dad is a dealer for Recaro so i was thinking of replacing the stock seat. Sadly, Recaro doesn't sell much that matches the stock interior (at least not in their seats that are under 1500 bucks a piece retail), so i'd probably go with black. Just wondering what it would look like with tan interior.

Which Recaros are you thinking of getting?

I have seen them with black, as well as blue Recaros, but the rest of the interior was in gray and they did not look out of place.

My JDM cloth factory DS seat seems to provide me with enough bolster/lumbar support, but I do have a lower back problem also. So I've been really fond (dreaming) of the Ergo Med line by Recaro.

I really enjoy having enough lateral support though as I seem to rely on them while going around corners a lot more than I realized.
