Ok well we've got a small reunion coming up at the end of Sept and into the first of Oct. We need a large (read 3 room sleaps 6+ comfortably) tent that can take a little rain if need be. I need one under $150 (if you can knock that under $100 it would be awesome!). What can you guys reccommend. Also I would like to be able to pick it up locally somewhere instead of having it shipped where possible (driving within 100 miles isn't much of a problem for me).

Suggestions?

I think with any tent I would get a bottle of the water proof seam sealer stuff and put it on all of the seams.

I bought an 11x17 tent at Wally's last year for 70-80 bucks I believe. I like it, it held up fine with a fair amount of camping last summer. I think it would be ok in drizzle, but I would waterproof the seams as mentioned already.

I have a Coleman 8x10 that has been through several rainy camping trips with no leaks. I also have a Eureka that I like better, but one in the size you're looking at will run considerably more than $150.

Seam sealer is a good idea, and I always carry some, but the Coleman has not needed it so far.

I have been using an Orzark Trail for about 5 years and we always spray it down with some waterproofer and do the seam sealer at least once a year. It has never leaked in some serious rain. The floor is worn out or I would still be using it. just my .02

Projekt,

I do not know where in Utah you are located but there are several options on Craig's List that may fit your requirements.

This one is an interesting design and seems to give privacy when needed but I do not know the brand or the reliability of it. The reviews are so-so on it they either really like it or they hate it.

If this interests you it is offered at Wal-Mart for $79 and you could just pick it up at your nearest store instead of worrying about driving around looking for one.

As stated earlier, most tents can be made to withstand light to moderate rain (seem sealer and/or waterproofing). If you only plan on using it occasionally I would say just go to Target or one of those chains and pick up one that is the right size for you.

I hate to say it, but I have an old and I'm talking old tent from Sears.

Hillary 5 man tent that to this day performs flawlessly. When I bought it, I was 17, from Sears in Hanover, Mass. I ended up getting laid in it at 17 and so much more.

It's still in my parents' basement and every year we break it out for some family thing and it works great.

Here's to old ass canvas tents that hang in there!!!

My wife and I now sleep in Hard "Something" Tent. Can't recall the name of it, but it's ok. Def Waterproof.
