I've seen it too many times to count, so I feel it's important to note here... Recovery GEAR is not nearly as importnat as recovery POINTS on the vehicle. At larger events others can comensate for gear, but not for your truck. please make sure another rig can hook up to your front and your rear. FJ60cam prefers the rear.
An 80 got hi-centered and needed a tug backwards... had $400 worth of snatchblock, tree saver, straps, balloons, shadow puppets... but no recovery points in the rear... oops. 30 minutes later we had bolted a factory hook from another rig to his and he was unstuck in 15 seconds....

Great point! The park actually has a rule about recovery points and that they should be bolted on rather than welded. As a guide in the park, we are encouraged to walk away from a recovery if the recovery points are not adequate to safely accomplish the task. Welded recovery points require that we make a judgement call on the quality of the weld - not always an easy thing to do. I've never had to "walk away" but have had to make other accommodations when recovering rigs before. (mine are welded but I know who did 'em)

Also, avoid recovery straps with metal hooks on the ends. They are generally inferior quality and a screw pin shackle (clevis) is a much safer way to connect.

I refused a "tug" from someone with a chain and then refused a "tug' from a rope with metal hooks... they started getting pissed at me... Almost cursing me that his 2500 will easily pull my "SUV" out of the mud with a chain... but i politely handed him my strap. He even told me to be careful as he YANKED ME out... Yeah... i smiled and just let him think his truck was heavier than mine... he wasn't too happy that his truck had issues pulling me outta this:

Nice hole man...I love the folks that think a chain is the appropriate piece of equipment to "snatch" someone out of a hole. I just think it is a good way to break something.

Surely you are not telling me that someone driving a Chevy 2500 (probably off-road for the first time) did not know how to recover someone???

Say it ain't so.

I went overboard on recovery points on my new bumper...but, better to be safe than sorry

In all I have the 2 stock recovery points on the front still bolted in place and my 2 on the back welded on but are some solid welds. The 2 on the back are also reinforced with welds close to it going straight to the frame.

I'm a firm believer in some good recovery gear but it's useless if there is not recovery points.

Any CB will work but the Uniden 620 will fit in the ash tray location perfectly.

Anyone have a photo of one of these installed? Also, anyone have a source for these CB's? I can't seem to find a site to buy them

You can't find it cause that's the wrong model #. Look for a Uniden 510 or 520. Amazon sells them along with a bunch of other places. I have the 520 in my 80. Slee's website has a tech article for the install here

I went with the Cobra 75 which is just the mic and the rest is hidden under the seat or behind the dash because I use the pocket beneath the radio to hold cigs and phone when driving.
