The battery light on my 62 comes on irregularly when driving. Sometimes I can drive for 30 minutes to an hour and no light comes on. Most times after about 15 minutes of driving the battery light comes on. I checked the battery. It seems good and it has always started right up in the nine months that I’ve had this cruiser. Anyone have an idea what this could be? I have done very little to the electrical other than swap out the lights for LEDs on the instrument panel. Thanks for any ideas.

The charge light is fed from the plug in the back of the alternator and the light can go on due to a failing voltage regulator as well. Lots of other things too, such as an intermittent ground or a damaged wire. Battery and voltage regulator are where to start your troubleshooting though.

Where does the voltage gauge on the dash sit? Did you use a meter to test the voltage at the battery while the engine was running?

Have you checked your brushes?
I have not. You mean the brushes in the alternator? I have not investigated that far yet. Had our first cool day here and I discovered the heat does not work in the Landcruiser so I got sidetracked.
