Prior to moving to the UK, I baselined my 1994 FZJ so that only oil changes would be needed unless a problem popped up. Most local garages deal with diesel LCs and petrol LCs are not common here. I’m averaging 10k miles annually. The old truck continues to be reliable and is my DD.
I thought that I would return to the US next summer, but instead, I’m headed to mainland Europe for 3 more years and will lose access to a garage and lift. Again, petrol 80s will be a rarity in my part of the world; it is likely that I will go back to performing oil changes and tire rotations on the side of a street and not much else. I have no idea what local garages are like (Belgium, Netherlands, northern Germany area), but would prefer to baseline the truck again so that I only have to perform oil changes—like the past 3 years. The 80 currently has 320k miles on it.
My plan is to replace the brake fluid, steering fluid, and ATF. They all have 30k miles on them. A new head gasket went in about 50k mile ago. The chassis is in excellent condition with no significant rust issues, the bushes and rubber mounts and seals are generally okay, and the suspension has been refreshed—the truck tracks true in a straight line with no abnormal tire wear.
My coolant was also changed 30k miles ago along with a new radiator, hoses, and thermostat. I’m running Peak’s Final Charge Global—the red stuff in the black bottle. It states that it is good for 1 million miles of on-road use (8 years or 20,000 hours of off-road use). I don’t trust this claim, but I’m only at a fraction of those values. Should I replace the coolant as well, or will it be fine for another 30-50k miles (60-80k mi total)? Thanks in advance.
