I got my call covered and the wife's okay, so im FUGGIN IN on this run!!
Do I take the Tacoma or ms. Matti?!?! Hmmmmm...

We are heading out of town on the 8th, so we won't be able to make it, but I sure wish we could.

When I took my Taco, there were only a couple of spots that challenged the ground clearance.

Hope everyone has fun.

keith no camping?

Over night trip... I'm camping.
Did that once as an out and back run.... Never again.

Are you actually gonna make a return?!?!

Got laid-off Jan 2nd been struggling until three weeks ago. Found a job, so far so good!

Damn brother... Sorry to hear that!!
That would explain a lack of interest in cruisers for the spell.
Glad you're back on track.

Anyone thinking about this???

Damn of course the wife and I are out of town. Would love to do this because I have been wanting to take the wife to some 4x4 location hot springs. Any chance you can GPS the trip if you go?!

Looks to be a bust.
Im Still going. Me and my buddy dusty are gonna roll in sat. AM.

Keith, et al: Not in the cards for me...but have a great and safe time! Throw some flies for me will ya Keith?!

Yessir!!!! Im GONNA do my best to catch that BIG HOG MOTHA' across from the camp!!!

Sorry boys... Didn't think anyone was really interested.
So I opted to take Matti for this run. Since I hadn't run the trail in quite a number of years, I thought it best to NOT test fate running my DD.
BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!
We ran from markleeville side. I was going off memory, an the trail looked nothing like I had remembered it and I soon realized that there were other roads OFF of the one we had taken in before that I didn't see. Fortunately dusty had a map!!!
We dropped into the valley where the aspen groves were. That's where I got my bearings.
That valley is even more spectacular than the last time I had seen it. Wild flowers in bloom, sage in bloom and the groves of aspens in that valley are really something to see.
The big hill climb was in eventful and as I recalled it. Beyond that, the others hills dropping down, were a LOT more weathered!! It was then I realized that taking Matti was the best option!! Going down wasn't so much of an issue... Going UP was where the challenge would have been for the taco.
So we traveled on down to the river and we were happy to find that the good camp spot was ALL OURS!!! We got there around 1330. We walked around the bend to find there were other campers over there. Away, but camp was set up.
We ate some lunch and set up camp and then headed down to the river. Dusty and his wife and daughter played in the river. I got the fly gear set up and started fishing up stream. Did POORLY!! I threw every nymph pattern I had, re adjusted the sinkers and indicator NUMEROUS TIMES and only had ONE fish on that I wasn't able to pull in.
So I got SKUNKED!!
Then we just made some dinner, had a nice camp fire, roasted s'mores and had a few beverages over some great conversation around the fire.
Got up around 7 leisurely ate breakfast and packed up camp. Started heading out around 10.
The other folks around the bend caught up to us when we stopped one time... Nice couple from the Bay Area. They were driving a 4.3l 4runner that was mildly built, locked and armored. Found out from them that there are quite a few hot springs around that area that we didn't know about. Have to explore more next time.
Great time!!
Did almost roll the rig DOWN one of the steep climbs back out. Opted to take the "hard line", dropped into a hole on the other side of the boulder... Tried to revers and the front of the rig started sliding around so I was angled sideways down hill!!!Had to just "back and forth" around the boulder I was hung up on carefully, to right myself!! My butt was grabbin for seat on that one!!

Sorry to hear about the fishing, but looks like some good times. You know excluding the trying to roll it over episode...

Great pictures.

Good write up Keith. Again wish I was there:mad:. Life is really cutting into my wheeling--gunna need to change that!:wrench:

I don't know how we got in, but it only took us about 2 hrs to get to camp.
Like I said... We got word of some more springs right around the bend. I'm thinking a fall run back there would be cool!!
