I hope I don't bore you guys with this story. I've been looking for a 55 for long time and finally found one. The Land cruiser sickness started back in 1976 when I was just a kid . I spent my summers in Cleveland, My dad was involved in baseball and did commercials for a local Toyota dealer and was given an FJ55 to use for the summer. My dad loved this thing and thought it was rock solid, I went nuts over it. At the time my dad owned a Jeep Wagoneer and had alot of problems with it. So in early 1978 my dad drove our first new Land cruiser home to Pa., a 1978 FJ55, in a snowstorm at night. It was the first of many Land cruisers, 14 to be exact. I couldn't sleep that night awaiting my dad and the Land cruiser. I'm very close to my Pop and I've been trying to relive the memory. I found this 1977 FJ55, it was a barn find, kind of. My buddy was looking out for me and sold this gentleman a scion he found out the man wanted to unload the 55 which wasn't used for years. He was the only owner an A title! The downfall is that it has quite a bit of rust but has some great things about it. All original, 40,400 original miles, it even has the factory front seat that hasn't a tear in it. Brake lines are rusted through so it hasn't been on the road in awhile. Carb needs work but the engine sounds great. He gave me every part that had been replaced and several new parts that he was going to install such as new brakes, carb rebuild kit ect.. The tool kit was never used, owners manual and the other two booklets are like new, I even got the original window sticker! He was a stickler about most things but then he did a few things like painting the original blue and white all blue, a darker blue, kind of makes me queasy. It looks like half spray bomb half paint brush. He hacked the tailgate because of the usual broken gear by cutting a square piece of the metal out, right at the "Y" in Toyota to put a manual crank in, UUUGHHHH!! At least he saved the piece he cut out. None the less, I'm thrilled to have it. I've been looking for One of these to restore for my dad but time is running out as his age is catching up to him. I'm very close to him and it means alot to me. I look forward to talking to you guys and asking for your advice. Unfortunately I have to store it for a little bit while I finish my 78 fj40 resto and build some money up to buy things for the Piggy. Well that's my story.

Great find, and great story. Thanks for sharing.

My Land Cruiser obsession started with my dad as well. We each rebuilt one several years ago. He is gone now and whenever I am out working on mine it reminds me of him.

Good luck on the rebuild, I look forward to following your progress.

Thank's, I love hearing that stuff! I don't know how to resize my pics, I'm not so good with the computer

Great story and congrats on this project. Can't wait to see more (and bigger pics----I just save mine on the desktop and post but then I know nothing of photobucket). Looking forward to more posts as you make progress!!

Wow! Another find and another new Pig owner!
I love all the new blood we are getting in here.
I really love the connection to your Dad with the Pig. That is pretty neat. I am glad he is still here to see your first Pig!
Was your Dad a professional baseball player?

Great story, post more pics.

Kid, Nice Piggy looks pretty straight. Cant believe your front fenders are not dented.

Thanks Bob.

Yeah it is pretty straight but the rockers on the underside are shot, i guess it's the nature of the beast

what month was it made?...the windows make me think it's an early 77 IE 76 model year. my 9/77 has rounded front window upper front corners....Nice

You're exactly right, October 1976 but the window sticker says 1977

I was wrong. my rig is an 8/77. in 9/77 they started makin the 78s. I wonder at what point in the 77 model year they changed the front doors out to the rounded corners??? anyway, congrats!!!

I was wondering who he was, who he played for, what position, how long, etc...

Again, cool story! I was bitten by the Cruiser bug all by myself. My Dad is still alive, but I don't think he fully "gets it" that I love Cruisers...
Yeah, if you don't have one or never had one, I'm not sure how many people really understand the cruiser thing. Pablo, his name is Rocky Colavito. Probably better than me writing a story, which I'm not very good at, is to google his name, you'll find alot of stuff. We have to cherish the time we have left with our dads, I'm sure you realize that. Steve
