I truth be known, $1500 or $2000 makes no big difference; as you will have another $10k in it before you know it. But worth every penny and at $12k, you will not lose $$ and if you kept it original, you could make $$! I would certainly check for bad rust as that is where the big bucks will go.

I have a '66 and there are a number of differences between yours and mine, such as the later hard top on yours.

The windshield frame is different than my '66; where is the vent? Was this changed about that time or an owner mod?

Both of your rigs were 65 or earlier production date. The corrugated top and vent in the windshield ended during the 65 model year. Very common in the early years to have a vehicle titled a later year because it didn't sell during it's production year. It may still have a round brass tag attached to the VIN plate.

64 The VIN started with the production year number (64 = 4). But the 65 didn't. The 65 still had the engine serial number stamped into the VIN. By the 68 model year that was gone. So once it was removed it made it easier to do a stock restore even if the original engine was gone. That is the main reason I am not going to try and do a original restore on my 65 FJ45LPB it had a 2F when I bought it:frown: So post up if your 66s and 67s have the engine serial# stamped on the VIN plate. Curious when Toyota stopped stamping them into the VIN.

Thanks for all the fast replies guys! As of right now I havent done anything about it. Still mulling it over as I already have a couple of projects. Sorry about not posting my location, I will update that. The truck is located in the Wichita, KS area and if I do not decide to get it anyone here is welcome to the owners info to come snatch it :)

Ill buy it for 1500 outright....then put a new engine for what 2k or so if it does not run? still a good deal...

tell dude to put more pics up and put in craigslist haha.

You guys realize this thread is over 1 year old right?

Yup, it was dead till Tackleberry bumped it. I think the guy who posted this eventually ended up getting a 60 or 80. No clue on the fate of this 40.

if the original poster didn't buy it was he nice enough to let others know where it is located?

Haha.. right now rigs are driving all over Wichita, KS .. peeping in every barn window/door.. it's the latest episode of "American Pickers"

And 1-year is not that long in Cruiser-Years...

I am new to the board and would love a little advice! I found an old coke machine on craigslist and went to pick it up got to talking. He had an old car for sale he wanted to get rid of. Said he needs money and has to downsize. He takes me out to the shed and lifts up the gate and I see a very nice conditioned 1966 Land Cruiser. VERY little rust, paint is in great shape(looks to be a repaint), front grille and headlights were off it but he had those over to the side and they were also in great shape. Interior was very nice overall with what appear to be newer seats in place of the old ones. I took a few crappy cell phone pics that wont do it justice but overall it was a great looking cruiser. The only bad was the original motor was in it but he said something is wrong with it. He has an extra motor he's throwing in that is identical and working. His price to me, $2000 or best offer which to me seems like a STEAL. I know nothing about these though, only that I love the look and think it would be a blast for a weekend toy! What do you all think? Is that a fair price for this car and what should I do? Thanks for any help!
