Barn Doors VS Drop Down Tailgate

OK, so the juries out on this one, them's that got'em like'm and them's that don't, don't.


I don't have a hard top for my '78 so no confirmation bias here. I wish I liked the ambulance doors more because that's correct for my truck but since I plan on running with the top off most of the time, I think the tailgate plus an earlier hatch style door is the way to go.

I have nothing against tailgates but I have a F250 for that. I like the barn doors on our 1970 40 with a hardtop because the doors are old school, are quirky and match the overall style.

Pure jealousy is what comes down too.
Besides, it's easier to string a rod on a tailgate.

The only way you could beat the barn doors is if it were a single door. And the tire swung with the door.

That's what I like, I can access the back without being concerned about the tire.

Downside of barn doors, visibility out the back is terrible. Rear view camera solves that though.
