I have a 1979 front axle for my FJ40. I need to rebuild it. My understanding is that the axles change after 1-79. How can I figure out if it's a pre-1/79 or a post 1/79? I got the axle for my 1962 FJ40. Any help would be great.

Degnol said:Hogan, your '79 axle will most likely have 3.70 gears in it. The '62 will have 4.10's. That presents a problem. If you still have your original R&P, I think you can swap that out.
The '79+ has the larger, more readily available Birfields, which also came on the Mini Trucks and FJ60's. Good axle, but ratio's are different. I'm in the middle of a knuckle rebuild myself.
