How does the rear axle on a 200 compare to the axles on an 80 (thickness/diameter)? I heard somewhere that Toyota used the Tundra axle on the 200 and I know for a fact those are considerably smaller.

Just my wondering for the night. If anyone wants to post pics that would be great :D

If someone could post a pic we could confirm. What I do know for certain is Toyota moved the diff into the center.

Found this picture after some Google searching (warning: it's pretty big). But my fears have been settled, looks like that axle might even be bigger than the ones used in the 80 series!

i would hope so. it is a heavier, more powerful vehicle. i trust toyota's engineers to take this into account.

It is interesting that they appear to have changed designs with the transfer case though...

Judging from that picture, I can't tell that that pumpkin is any larger than a regular ole 9.5" LC chunk.

Not the pumpkin, the axle shafts (if that's what they're called on the outside).

(thickness/diameter)?

The axles on the 100 were larger and heavier-duty than the 80-series.

I could not imagine they down-sized them on the 200 when the output is even higher with the 5.7L.

Has anybody looked at the ARB locker vs spline count specs? We might check that.

80 front = 1.31" 30-spline
80 rear = 1.31" 30-spline

100 front = 1.31" 30-spline...50mm bearing
100 rear = 1.37" 32 spline

200 front = 1.37" 34 spline...58mm bearing
200 rear = 1.37" 32 spline

So they have beefed up the axle(s) in each series.

Sweeeeet. It pleases me to see that Toyota is keeping things HUGE when tiny seems to be the trend nowadays.

but my wife says size doesn't matter...

great info ..

those bearings size are wheel bearing ? or 3rd bearings ?

80 weries was 45mm bearings as same as 60 / 70 and 40 series ?

I think you mean axle housing or axle tubes.

Most of how an axle housing looks on the outside is based on the suspension and other component that bolt to the axle housing. In other words, it could be larger, yet weaker. Or the opposite could be true.
