Aux. Fuel Tanks

I am currently in discussions with two different people who have the confer aux fuel tanks. The answer that they didn't need the extra tank so they removed them has me concerned. Why would you remove it if your still keeping the cruiser? I want to extend my range past the puney little tank thats Toyota gave us.

Just wondering what experiances the other members have here and what their recommendations are.

What should I watch out for on a used one that may have been sitting for a while.

Not sure either, I've known a couple that did the same thing also, I would've left the bastard in there myself. As far as condition, prolly take a peak with a flashlight thru the sender hole or filler will give a good idea as to condition.

I have an extra tank from an fzj 70 and it fits great under the tub. Wouldn't take it out for anything. It just gives you great comfort.

We have a Northwest Metal Products 22.5 gallon reserve in the FJ40. Baffles me why anyone would remove an aux tank from a vehicle that has a 15 gallon stock tank and gets 12 mpg..

I removed mine, because with moving the rear axle back with the spring flip, it would not fit. I would have loved to have kept it back there. It wasn't worth having to cut it down, and loose 1/2 of it's capacity. BTW it is for sale too. Not a con-ferr, it is custom, but based on the con-ferr design. the skid plat is actually part of the tank. I have everything to make it work. Tank, filler neck, dual tank solenoid, autometer sending unit w/autometer guage. relay to power the solenoid, and mount bolts. I have pix on my other computer if anyone is interested.

How much are you asking for it? I might be interested... but will it fit a 55?

It is designed to squeeze into the rear frame of a 40. Not sure if it will work in a 55.

i just bought a fuel cell from summit racing and am installing that under the bed. but i'm going to use it as my only tank. it was only $130 with sending unit.

let me see if this is going to work. here is the tank. Still never got the initial question answered though. Why do people remove these? I am sure my reason isn't unique. For others, I have no clue. I really did enjoy having the extra capacity. BUt it just didn't work with the flipped rear springs. Without flipped springs on an SOA it would be perfectly fine. I am located in eastern Virginia. I'll keep my asking price off the thread, and in the PM's. I think I bought this thing from someone on this board, or Pirate.
