I know swags are popular down under, anyone here in the US use one? I could only find one online retailer who advertised them and they no longer sell them. If anyone knows a retailer in the US selling them please let me know!

Looks like a really nice way to go, just unroll and sleep:

I have something similar but it is a hammock. You may be able to get one surplus. Look for Jungle Hammock.

Swags are popular with a certain group of folk in oz - I've yet to meet them...

Give me a decent tent any day of the week - especially if it is inclement weather, even just rain.

I've camped a LOT in oz and never seen any folk use a swag in the bush. I think maybe the man from snowy river uses one...

cheers,
george.

Looks a bit short in head room too.

swag

traditionally a swag is basically just a big waterproof sleeping bag with mattress inside it. and are the warmest.

the ones with all the bells and whistle are colder i.e. raised roof, and are more prone to leaking in the rain, because of all the extra stiching,

i have had a REAL swag for over 15 years and is still as good as the day i bought it, i have added extra foam and i have a dedicated swag pillow also liner, when rolled up measures about 15 inches in diameter. love it

A swag is for a boys outback trip, where you have the room to fit them, until it rains, then you use the tent you took, just in case.

Those who use these types of "swags" (these aren't real swags) only do so because they don't know any better.
I'd like to see an example of a real swag.

This is the closest I have seen which can be bought new...

From a site in the US, and much cheaper than an Aussie rip-off version.

Usually traditional swags were hand made by the user. So the one above is a deluxe edition, with leather instead of rope straps/handles.

Tents, camping hammocks and the like are far superior to a swag and always well be.

The Kamp-Rite is nice and I think cabelas has a knock-off one. Only thing I don't like about them is they pack rather large. Was loooking at the Ventura cus I already have a cot...
Cabellas sells a cot tent that also serves as a stand alone tent.
Cabela's: Cabela's Cot/Bivy Tent

Very reasonably priced.
