G'day

I'm starting this thread for a mate. He is a member of this board but he is only on dailup (whatever that is:flipoff2:) and he doesn't have a silver star yet so I'm going to start this off for him. His name is Melco and he is my TA (tradesmans assistant) at work and we car pool to work everyday in my HZJ80 as well as both being members of the Fraser Coast 4x4 Clubhttp://www.frasercoast4wdclub.com/.

The cruiser is a '74ish FJ40. It has a Holden 253 V8, TH400 and ? t/case. It is currently running 33/12.5r15 M/Ts.

I can't chat about it for too long tonight as we are about to go out for a night run with the club. So here are a couple of pics to keep you busy until I can get back to it tomorrow.

Not growing up on American iron we are not sure of what make the transfer case is. Who knows what breed this is? Is it any good?

The case has twin sticks and looks to be cast iron construction. The handbrake has an external shoe/ band setup.

Here's a link to his original build up thread in the forty section which he has neglected due to the hassles of dailup.https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=81974

I will endeavour to keep this thread alive with updates now I am on his back to get it finished. He may get on here as well with updates direct from the horses mouth.

Any way gotta go now time to play in the mud and rocks.

 Mick

Looks odd, like a Rover..

Might be a d18 but I am seriously not sure of that.

Looks like there is a adapter between the tranny and tcase (not just the stock adapter)

This is a stock Toy t-case . ?

No it's not Toyota. It is a cast iron construction case. It was supplied with the vehicle by the PO.

I used to do a lot of work on Land Rovers (please make the nightmares stop) and I reckon it is definitely not a rover case.

Yeah it looks like there is an adaptor between the TH400 and this t/case.

Does anybody have some photos of a d18 (Dana?)? Or a link to a site that I might be able to research some non-Toyota stuff?

Koooool build man....................

Must edit...

My name is Rob

I was talking to Melco today at work and he reckons the Dana he used to have in his Heep (I know I bag him all the time about it) had a diamond shaped Dana logo on it. This t/case doesn't have a logo just a couple of numbers. Do all Danas have this logo or only some? Could it be a New Process T/case of some description? What other makes of T/case are there that use cast iron construction?

Dana 18

Going by that photo it doesn't look like Melco's is a Dana 18. I can see the Dana logo which his doesn't have and it looks like the speedo drive is on the rear output rather than on the front snout of his.

Thanks for the photo. One more T/case eliminated!

Another photo of the case showing the numbers if they mean anything to anybody. There are two lots of numbers. The smaller numbers at the top read 51223 followed by a H in a circle. The larger numbers read 3310244000.

Do these numbers help anybody?

Hi All:

Interesting thread!

So, I'm assuming that no one thinks it is a NP205 t-case?

Yes, it does appear to have an adaptor plate of some sort between the Turbo 400 and the t-case.

Mickldo, have you tried the bolt heads on the t-case to see if they are Metric (i.e. Japanese) or "English" (i.e. a North American part.)?

Regards,

Alan

I could be wrong. but it looks like an old nissan patrol transfer case. just going off handbrake setup

oh yeah. nice 40

It's definitely not a MQ patrol T/case but I can't remember what a G60 box looks like so it might be one to look into.

I'll have another close look at the bolt heads to check to see if it is Metric or SAE but I reckon it is an American built box just by the look of it.

An NP205 was my first thought when I saw the box but I wouldn't know an NP205 if I tripped over one.

Thanks for all your replies so far guys.

It does look like a G60 box doesn't it. Even the adaptor to the turbo 400 looks the same. I'll have to jump on Outers and search for more info about the box. Thanks for solving the identity mystery.

Melco hasn't had much time to work on it lately as he has had the flu but we should be setting up the driveline angles/positioning of drivetrain soon.

im new in these site brothers. finally my t-case identity mystery has been resolved. its a Nissan G60 coupled to a 3 speed manual tranny. do we have any data on the crawl ratio of this t case? tnx
