Picked up the 40 on the weekend and called via the engineers on the way home, and it passed, so all legal for road use now :D

Now just the paint to sort. Plan to redo the whole rig in metallic silver.

Am heading out to LCMP this weekend and with the constant rain the Sunshine Coast has been getting all year, I had to sort a top out for the 40. A mate used to do trimming for a living, and has a machine at home, so he knocked this up for me yesterday. Am stoked with how it turned out.

Have also added a leaf to the rear pack, which has reduced the bodyroll a bit, but didnt lift up the saggy arse as much as I hoped. Might have to get dobinsons to do something up properly for me.

Also had brooksy has some sheet to the tailgate.

A few questions for you.

I see that you live in Queensland, are the road vehicle restrictions pretty strict there?

why no spring over axle suspension? Is it unlawful?

Do you have to pass emissions with that V8 when you install it?

Beautiful rig though, keep updating.

Well had a good weekend out at LCMP.

Trip out friday sucked a bit, got all the way to the entrance of Sunday Creek Rd (bout 40km from LCMP) only to get a road closed sign. Rang the rangers office to see if Mt Buggery was open, and they said it was also closed (found out later it wasnt) so we had to do a 150km detour via Kilcoy, pain in the arse!

Got to camp and was setup around 3ish, then we went to go do some tracks. As plenty of other people have mentioned on the forums, it is crazy how much the place has changed with the floods. Went to do claw gorge and test track but both these are impassable so we went and did Cruiser Canyon. Its changed a heap, with lots of nice lines to take now.

Was myself in my 40, Aaron in a new cruiser ute on 35" creepies and Val in a std. crusier ute on 33s. Was easy enough for 3/4 of it, but for 100m or so around the ledge section its nuts. We got the 40 through with lots of rock packing and guys on a strap on the front. But the utes wouldn't have got through without panel damage so they turned around. I love having the tube fenders/flares/sliders now, lots of rubbing on them, but no damage.

It was about 8pm now after getting out of Cruiser Canyon, and I couldn't go the normal easy way back to camp due to massive erosion gullys. Had to go up Rav Ridge then around through the Rain Forest Section to get back to camp. Was a bit average at times as we had no map, no torch, and were by ourselves, so wasnt keen on getting stuck. All worked out ok in the end but.

Some pics.

Surprising how much still fits in with the top gone and rear seat fitted.

A few questions for you.

1.I see that you live in Queensland, are the road vehicle restrictions pretty strict there?

2.why no spring over axle suspension? Is it unlawful?

3.Do you have to pass emissions with that V8 when you install it?

4.Beautiful rig though, keep updating.

1. For suspension and tyres, yeah they are some of the worse in Australia. Basically 2" bodylift, 2" suspension lift and 15mm bigger tyres is the max. No engineering available if you go outside these. But for engine conversions, roll cages, coil conversions, solid axle swaps the process is pretty simple to get approved, and cheap compared to other states. (Doesnt make sense sometimes). Some new rules are in the pipeline which may make it a little better for Qld, but won't be sure till its brought in.

2. In QLD, yes, A SPOA conversion can't be done and legally be on the road. I believe it still may be able to be approved in NSW but. I think for the effort of doing a SPOA correctly, I would just go to links and coilovers instead anyway.

3. Kind of. Basically all the original emission gear fitted to the donor vehicle/motor must be fitted when doing the engine swap. Which in my case is just fit a charcoal canister for the fuel tank breather, and a catalytic convertor. It doesnt get tested in any way but, just has to look like its been fitted.

4. Thanks mate, will do

Cheers Gruntled!

Finally some very small progress over the weekend on the V8/Zf Auto/LT230 swap :D

No excuses now to put it off any longer.

Also ordered some trail ready 15x9 HD series beadlocks this week. Coming over on the slow boat so have a 6 week or so wait.

Last bits I needed arrived yesterday to fit the V8. Hoping to get it tacked in this weekend.

Also got a CruiserUser.com gauge and lighting upgrade. The guages get pulled apart and are fitted to the standard cluster. Keeps a factory look, but gives you accurate gauges. Also gets a EL wire which lights up the gauge cluster a sh!tload better then standard.
