I think Monument would be the best place. Current Aurora maps show far norther CO as the southern limit. The CME was a bit weaker than expected.
THE CME HAS ARRIVED: As expected, a CME hit Earth's magnetic field on Jan. 9th (around 20:00 UTC or 3 p.m. EST). Although the initial impact was weaker than expected, geomagnetic storms could still develop as Earth passes through the CME's wake. NOAA forecasters are sticking by their prediction of a G3-class event on Jan. 9-10, which means high-latitude sky watchers should remain alert for auroras.
Drove up north of monument after the kids practice around 8:30 to 9. Was overcast ... sky was definitely glowing but I think it wss Aurora CO and not Aurora Borealis
The aurora maps show it way up in Canada...may not even dip down into the US. As Leon stated, much weaker than originally forecast. Plus there are lots of clouds up north...clear down here in Pueblo though!
