If anyone else was coming the camp has changed. Some people from Texas with horses and campers decided to join as we were doing Hancock pass today. My wife suggested I should block the road with the fj since we took the jeep but I parked in the way and said no one would be that stupid to come in. My exact words before I left and I was wrong. So instead of 1.4 miles and left to camp it's all the way to road 272b then left. It will be the first campsite on your left.
They did a good job of getting around my fj to park their trailers. I gave them a good earful and karma will catch up to them. You can't escape it.

Maybe you should have left 5 pair of small shoes outside with a couple small bikes and 2 baby pens in the middle of the campground. Wouldn't hurt to have a couple dog chains laid out too.

Well I will write a report later and some more pics. I don't think we took the right line up. Was it supposed to be by the tree Luke? And with camp getting taken over right behind me was my big tent with my camp table set up with stove, grill and water on it. Our chairs were right next to there camper. Once we took down our tent and moved they hooked up to there trailers and put me where our tent was. It took us 3 hours to tear down move and put back up.

Dude, that's when I strip down to my undies, start chuggin' beer, turn my punk rock up to 11 and ask if they have any cute Texas daughters in those campers. :grinpimp:

Couldn't sleep so here is the report. The family and I headed out after work on Thursday night to browns creek and got camp all set up. We had a fire and and looked at the stars. In the morning we left the fj and took the jeep to do Hancock lake and pass. We got up to the lake and there was one sweet Tacoma sitting in the parking lot. I talked to the owner later and his name was Nick. He was from conifer I believe. I told him I would post a pic of his truck on here for a little truck porn. We don't see that to often. Anyway I we did some fishing and I had the only luck catching my first golden cut throat. We were a little pressed for time so we cut the fishing short and headed to the pass. I did some reading on it and it was a little tougher then expected. The rubicon just has way to long a wheel base and we hit a few rocks but on the plus side the wife said we need to lift it so that won't happen again. Good news for me. We got to the top and kept going a ways and decided to turn around so we could meet everyone that was coming that night. On the way back we stopped to see the obstacle at grizzly and the pics don't do it justice. Then we had the texans at camp so we moved and had to repost directions. Darryl from the fj cruiser forums showed up, then Tracy with the 60, and low and behold mr. Wonderful shows up. I was relieved to have some one with a more capable rig and experience on this trail. Or so I thought for a second. He just showed up to camp and then push on to some other trails as he already did grizzly this year. I will admit I was a little intimidated by the gate keeper on grizz. We had a good fire thanks to Luke and stayed up shooting the breeze. In the morning Luke left and we went to meet Patric at the gunsmoke. We fueled up and Tracy came over and said he has already broke down. He had a hole in one of his solid brake lines running back to do both rear brakes. That is not good for grizzly. We called around and found a shop that was supposedly open and stopped in. They were actually closed and said Monday would be the earliest. So we went to napa and got some parts instead. Tracy felt bad for holding up the run so he said let's fix it later and do the run now. I am glad Patrick shed some light and said if we fix it later we may end up needing more parts and Napa would be closed until Monday. So we opted to fix it and yes we would have needed more parts so it was a good idea. Well after it was all done I think we got to the trail head by 1:30 or 2 and it was raining already. Not a bad rain but none the less it was getting wet. Tracy decided to not take his truck and just ride with Darryl. I ended up winching up after a few tries, pulled Patrick up, and a group came behind and winched Darryl up. Once we were all up it started to rain hard but everyone wanted to push forward. So on we pushed. Met a group coming down the rick slide so we backed up and moved to the side as they couldn't. Once they got buy we had a wet road ahead. I ended up slipping on a spot and gave it a bump and slid real close to the edge. The wife was a little scared and walked that part until we got back in the trees. Well we all made it to the top and people fished as I grilled the dogs. Tracy caught the only fish and let zach real it in. Thanks Tracy, did I mention Tracy is one of the nicest guys. And he's got a cool roof top tent too. Wish we could have gotten the 60 up there. Anyway we came back down with really no problems. Got back to camp about 8 and Daryl had to go home so Tracy and I helped him pack and air up tires. Patrick set his tent up while we were doing that. We shot the breeze and come to find out Patrick used to have a Tacoma on 35's years ago and has done Pritchett canyon, 21 road and Blanca before. Some good experience there. In the morning everyone went home except the wife and I. We decided to do tin cup pass and she had a blast driving that trail. No issues on that one. We had a fun camping with everyone and it was good meeting you Tracy (Sas). I am looking forward to seeing you again our next meeting. This was a great trip, next time we spend 3 days camped at grizzly instead. No texans up there with campers. Ha

Looks like a great weekend!

Matt, Patrick is on the right line in his gatekeeper picture. There is usually a whole lotta rocks stacked up behind where his driver rear tire is about to climb. Sometimes it takes a good bump, and you will always hit your rocker :) good job guys.

Cool. It was just really wet and I kept sliding to the side. We were getting stuck on the frame. I don't like to bump it to hard but I bet if I hit hard enough it may have jumped it. About 2 more inches of articulation probably would have helped as well. Dang you long arm suspension drivers. I don't know for sure but I think if the 60 came with he may have drove up it being he has the solid axel and maybe able to keep all 4 wheels on the ground. From what I am told that's a good thing. Haha

time to solid axle that FJ Cruiser.

It's been on mind for some time now, but I am not sure it is going to happen. I think it would be easier just to lift the jeep and call it good as of now.. 10 or 15 years down the road and a lot more miles the fj may go under the knife. I would have to make it bigger then the jeep at that point just for shoots and giggles.

I think/hope 10 or 15 years from now it looks more like this.
