I recently replaced my carb with a brand new one, cost a woopen 394.03 after tax. While doing this I thought id replace all my old vaccum lines, but, the P.O. swears he had it de-smogged by the local 'necks. After a few good looks at my FSM and Haynes and Chilton (yep, two big mistakes in a row) Ive concluded the 'necks must of been drunk... There was one main vac line that had went to them all! NO kidding. They had 4way splitters all up n' down the *****. Ive got it rigged closet to FSM spec I can.

Does anyone have a pic of a properly 'de' smogged 22R?
Should I just cap the rest of the lines that have no home?

Im missing the MC valve, thermo valve, HAI Diaphram, AS reed Valve, and the BSVS.

WTF? right now IH8'necks

only system you need to keep operating is the EGR, the Evap can and distributor.

i hate rednecks too. infact i'm the head member of a local anti redneck society. basically we clean up road kill, breed with non family, shoot cameras not guns, drive mercedes and wear slacks. you need to join. any one wearing a cow boy hat will be smashed in the head with a bottle of '86 charenotau wine. wrod.

So, based on the recent pix of you and the ole lady, look yourself in the mirror and start smashing!

Not sure the reason why you would need to keep the EGR on the 20r?

I know on cruisers we get rid of them. Is there some reason to keep them other than for smog related issues?

There is a difference in normal 'necks, and our 'necks. Just remember this. You own a metric socket set. Setting you above the locals :flipoff2:

I can block all the rest and the elec. choke, and other vaccum ran objects will operate correctly?

the egr system causes the combustion chamber temp to drop. it has more to do with emmisions. but has a lot to do with power effeciency too.

it reduces the Nox output. since it keeps the temperature lower. it reduces the thermal energy loss in the combustion chamber. which means more mechanical work, less thermal work.

by removing this system you cant gain any power. by making it operate properly it will not make it weaker.

if the egr is kicking on at idle or under load, it will run bad. but that would be cause your possum eating bungee cord wrapping red neck po screwed it all up.

i own two boxes of chips ahoy, a BFH, and channel locks. thats it. i sold all my tools for shovels to clean up road kill and family packs of condoms.

keep the electric choke on there. you need a choke. sure you can get it to start with out it, but its a PITA. a lot of the vaccuum stufff is linked. so before you rip it off look at the diagram.

hmmm i was just gonna hang myself from the christmas tree, instead. i dont wear a cowboy hat, its just a photo shop thing i do

detail needed. My 22r "gargles" at idle, but the FSM says it should, and if the vac line to the (reed?) valve is pulled off, it will stop. It stops once you pull the line like the book says.

Don't know about at load though.

Is that normal, do I have a problem somewhere?

Or, am I thinking backwards and off is the gargle, on is no gargle?

there is a HUGE misconception on 22R's

that gargle, that reed vavle has F'ing NOTHING to do with the EGR.

those pipes on the exhaust manifold have NOTHING to do with EGR.

all that stuff is for the Air Sucktion Reed Valve. it's sole purpose in life is to aerate the exhuast, and that system can be disabled but it is pointless to either keep it on or take it off

So, either way it doesnt matter?

I meant that the elec choke will operate properly no matter what. I know its a royal PITA, thats why i just got a new carb...

You sarcasm lately makes me think, are you in the dog house?

So should it gargle?

Mine does two things, first it will idle down until it kills itself. Second it makes a thumpthump-thumpthump exhuast sound after it reaches op. tempature.

...breed with non family...

...and family packs of condoms...

:confused:How's that work?

If you have a CA 22R, you have a smog pump. When it reaches operating temperature, the AIR switches from the exhaust to the air cleaner, then you hear the thumping noise.

So it really wasnt 'de-smogged'... That would make since. How do i get rid of this thump? Just block all vaccum except for the egr?

So, either way it doesnt matter? since its not EFI it does not matter so much, cause the efi adjusts the lean/richness based on the O2 sensor, which is affected by inputs like the EGR. but leavi it alone.

oh

no, i pissed about my post count and stupid repeating questions

So should it gargle?
yes. thats the air suction reed valve normal sound.

i dont know about what sounds the air pump makes.
