I'm supposed to be looking into destinations, I'd like to go see the crystal mill in marble. Not sure if that's a lot further though. I'll try to look tonight. Been overly busy this year.

Cool.

I didn't mean to put the pressure on ya, but after Leon posted the BV trip details, I didn't want this trip to disappear.

Crystal Mill would definitely be on my to do list for the trip. :steer:

Is that Luke getting ready to drop in ?!?!?

Lol. Yeah, yeah... I know. Been crazy busy with everything. People are knocking my door down about fixing generators. I was the only generac tech south of I-70, so now that I've quit my other job people are scrambling. Trying to help out a few of the customers I actually liked.

Been working long nights fast and furiously on the Cherokee trying to get it ready for my annual June birthday trip. Wiring the locker, connecting all the lights, installing all the switches, installing a new overhead console, installing the HAM radio.... *Sigh* trip is 27-30th, I'll never be done.

Whatever we do, it's definitely going to be an overnighter. Looks like we can take either cottonwood pass or tincup over to Taylor canyon and into crested butte, then down into marble. Maybe we can take independence pass? Seems out of the way, but it's paved? Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the area. Those who are are welcome to throw in suggestions, I'm all ears.

Who is interested in attending?

I'm a definite maybe. :grinpimp:

I'll know more in a week or so.

I'll might bring my 5 year old along as well.

When I was referring to "dropping in" it was a reference to the Kayaker in the picture, but fits for your reply as well Luke ;)

Here are my thoughts and I think this may have come up last year. We had two overnighters planned for back to back months. I don't know if that split attendance or not. Seems like most folks don't commit to two, much less one. I don't mind planning trips, if there is interest.

For example, there were just three rigs at BV weekend last year. I'm not saying we didn't have fun but when the turnout is low I question the effort involved. BV weekend is fairly easy and most members know trails out there. Aspen is a different story, it will take some effort. Just fyi.

I have no idea where I am going with this...went fishing on North Cat. yesterday and had a blast...

BTW - I am a maybe on this trip but unlikely.

Yeah, trust me, I get that for sure. Especially in these times when money is tight and gas is expensive, most people can only afford one "big trip" per year. I'm certainly one of those people. Heck, it's $100 worth of food and supplies, then another $200 in gas to get anywhere nowadays. The thing about colorado I've learned though is all of the really good stuff involves high passes that are only open in July, August, and September. I'm struggling with wanting to go everywhere this year because I actually have a rig that can take long distance road trips for once.

I dunno, if we want to cancel the aspen thing it's no big deal for me. I'll be at buena vista this year no matter what, that just doesn't seem that far anymore. I really want to run red cone again too, could change aspen for red cone.

Then why haven't you posted in the BV thread??

I would wait and see for a little bit what kind of interest develops and then make a call on what to do. Hard to plan with minimal feedback. Now if it does change to a day trip on Sat., I could make that. ;)

I'm interested in the Marble, Taylor, Schofield (I think that's the same vicinity) area. Seen/read about it forever, but never been.

I hear ya, Luke. The really spectacular stuff is only accessible for a short time each year; Probably the only reason they haven't built resorts up there yet...

August is forever away right now for me. We're trying to plan our June 27th run to st. Elmo and don't know if Claire is going to Michigan that weekend or not. Always last minute with me. Red cone used to be a fairly easy day trip when you could run up red cone and down handcart gulch, but I don't know if that nasty washout has been fixed on handcart. It's a damn long way around if not.

As far as Aspen...Independence Pass is paved, but a wicked drive...nice drop offs! Lincoln Creek road isn't too bad...great little camping area at Grizzly Reservoir...about 6-8 spots, fishing, and its donations for cost. The trail continues up to Ruby past some old cabins and active mines. The trail continues up Red Pass. The trail to Red Pass isn't bad at all...it gets narrow and more difficult up the pass though. There are a couple of nice hiking trails up there too...Anderson and Grizzly Lakes.

My .02 cents:

Obviously, you guys have to do what's best for you and your families.

Being the Colorado newb, I want to see and do it all. I'm in for for sure if the Aspen trip happens, and I'll be in for the BV trip unless the doctor says Jess has a high % chance of going early.

I'd be definitely interested in going. Have to make sure the work schedule is clear. As I remember though, Taylor Pass is one rough B!t&h!!!

The weekend is now out for me, regardless of which option.

So who is still considering this? I have been giving it thought, I know I'll kick myself later if I don't go, I've been wanting to see this area forever. I figure I'll just take the pickup to save gas money, and save face with my peers because I'll actually be in a Toyota :D

This will for sure be one heck of a day trip, lots of driving. I will Probably bring some minimal camp gear in case I don't feel like making it home, but coming home is the plan.
