We deviated from the planned route at this point, thanks to Dave's recommendation. About an hour down a tight trail, we got to a really narrow dump out into a creek, with our night's camp destination on the other side. A few people driving about $50k worth of Razors were there taking a break, and told us they'd never seen any full size vehicles cross here. They wound up filming it...2nd pic you can see the lady with her camera out. They couldn't believe we drove off in there...

This was my favorite 30 mins of driving on the trip. Thx to Dave for putting us on it and to JT and Bomar for the awesome spots. Made it through with only a few new pinstripes...

It was here that JT caught his bumper ride across the creek. Dave took all these great photos.

My buddy Trey took this video of me doing the above crossing...wish we had filmed Dave, but he rolled through before anyone knew what was happening. I have a vid of Bomar headed down but it stops at the bottom when Trey and JT jumped in Bomar's truck to go across.

Other side of the above crossing was 2nd night's campsite. Dave put us on a sweet rock bar. Got camp setup and commenced to cooking/eating/drinking. Burned a lot of wood, drank a lot of whiskey, discussed rodents on meth, how much we all hated crocs, burned said crocs (are they made of solid gasoline??), the merits of yeti coolers and OzTents, and lots of other stuff, half of which i don't remember cause it got real fuzzy.

Oh, and the scenery didn't suck either...

Woke up the next morning to some really cool fog coming off the river. Hung out by the fire and drank at least 3 pots of coffee. Broke camp, and Dave took us out to pavement with a few stops. Cool waterfall, then stopped at a rec area to use the facilities and dump trash. When we pulled in the lot there was another 100 parked there, some guys headed to the creek to finish. Got back on pavement and headed home...trip over.

Really enjoyed the driving and the company. Hopefully we can do this again.

I can't say thanks enough to all parties involved. It was just what the doctor ordered and the reason I wanted to move to AR. This is the beginning of more of these to come...

Gouddin Tight (German trails) and getting all Lochte on that swimming hole.

Damn fine time.

Awesome!

It's pretty easy, but not necessarily intuitive. Here's the process on my phone, though the ipad version should operate the same.

In the Motion X app...

From the map page --> Menu --> Tracks --> Recently Added --> Three Horizontal Bars at the top right --> Export Tracks --> Select All, or Select Individually --> Export --> This should open up an email with the .gpx files attached and you can add the recipients.

Wow! Looks like a great trip! Glad Dave is okay, that sounded scary.

Great pics JT!

I had to delete my post because there was zero formatting...it was hardly legible. I'll add it back once I figure out why a carriage return is no longer recognized in the post editor!!??

^ It's happening to everybody on MUD right now, something to do with the site. I gave up on it while I was doing my posts.

  • Attempt #2 using a bulleted list to maintain some semblance of order...lame.

  • My creative writing skills don't hold a candle to Bomar's poetry or Andy's prose; there's nothing really that can be added to their written accounts of this truck camping trip. So, I'll just add a link to the photos I took:

  • First attempt at using one of these photo sharing sites, so let me know if there's a problem. I tried to get rid of duplicates and the lower quality shots, and I apologize for all the last night fire pit pics...the fire was far from the only thing that was lit by that point in time.

  • Andy - thanks for putting this on the calendar, doing the legwork to get it all organized and planned, and following through with it to the end. I can't imagine the amount of time you had invested in this before even heading out Thursday. Oh, and thanks for the amazing food you cooked Saturday night...we ate like kings.

  • Trey - thanks for being the guy that cracks open the first beer at 9:27 in the AM. It's way easier to pop the top on the first one at 10:00 when someone else in the group is already on number 2.

  • Bomar - thanks for letting me invite myself to ride bitch in your truck late in the game, and big thanks to you and Tisa for the hospitality Thursday night.

  • Dave - well, Dave, thanks for being awesome! What a hell of a guy!

  • Really cool trip, fellas...thank you all for letting me come along. A couple of observations after the fact:

  • 1. The beers at the house last night didn't taste nearly as good as the ones we put back on the trail.

  • 2. Sitting in the office today fxxxing sucks.

  • A few photos of the croc killing just to make sure they don't get lost in the photobucket machine:

  • These bullets make me want to use some bullets...
