Are the seats really leather?

2016 LC grey w brown leather. 2,000 miles and the seats are "creasing" at the thigh line....

I took the truck to the long time local auto upholster shop and they suspect that the seats are probably vinyl.

Really?!?!

Leather trimmed is the verbiage on Toyota's website

I just got off the phone with Toyota North America and asked why the sales sticker says leather when the seats appear to be simulated leather.

I got a deer in the headlights response, along with a case number.

I'm irritated enough to pull the string on this.

I'll post what response I get back.

The reason I bought the Land Cruiser and not the Lexus is because I can abuse the interior with dogs, kids, camping, etc. and it always comes clean and stays looking good. Whatever they used to make the seats, it gets my approval.

no idea what those seats are made of, and I don't think leather is always better, but I do think that the vast majority of people out there would indeed expect real leather at the landcruiser price point...

Specifications calls for leather trimmed.

"8-passenger seating with semi-aniline perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces in Black or available (no-cost) Terra"

Real leather wears fast and personally looking at 100's of 200 series for sale the 1st/2nd row are real leather since they wear quickly but I think 3rd row is vinyl. Vinyl last a lot longer than real leather my personal opinion.

i appreciate the multiple viewpoints about wear and tear on the current interior, but my question is simply about product representation...does leather trimmed encompass "leatherette"?

i bought my LC with a window sticker that says leather...and at this price point, i want a definitive answer as to what the material actually is.

Pretty sure the seating surfaces are some grade of leather. This is the case in most vehicles with "leather interior".

hmmmm.....well, imagine my surprise when the dealership GM told me earlier today that it is a "synthetic leather". combine that with the early wear and the ineffectiveness of name brand leather conditioners and gosh, well, now im wanting an official answer.

I am not happy about early wear, but the Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil did work very well and actually has reversed crises.

its crap....

at this price point, the interior should smell like a herd of cows....
Iirc, I'm in the 2nd largest dairy state in the country. I've got 5 or 6 dairys within 3-4 miles. You probably do not want your seats to smell like a herd of cows...unless the cows are dead and their skins have been cured. :) Based on Toyota's description of "perforated aniline" leather, the seating surfaces should be leather. Back seats I'm not sure of as they're in the attic.

Same here, though my acid-test is pheasant blood. WeatherTech with a piece of cheap commercial carpet on top helps a lot.

I had a similar moment not too long ago. I bought a lightly used 2015 Lexus IS350 F Sport last year. The interior is really nice but I learned that the F Sport trim package gets their Newlux synthetic on all the seats. The non sport package got leather (huh??). The steering and gear shift are the only leather wrapped items in my car.

It does clean up easily and it looks great. Nobody knows it's not leather unless I tell them.

But ya, I get the frustration. Had the same feelings myself. Did not know that the 2016 LC had something similar going on.

I have over 115,000 miles on my 08 LC and have never really been happy with the quality of the "leather". I have owned some pretty nice cars and always been happy with the quality of the leather interiors. The LC, not so much...particularly with how much they charge for the car. Heck, my 80 had nicer leather and when that wore out I spent a few grand for a new leather interior that was pretty nice. In the back of my mind I expect at some point I will do that with the 200 and finally get the nice leather interior that the car should have come with.

That being said, last week I picked up my mud-covered lab puppy who pissed all over the back seat and rear area. It was a mess that cleaned up pretty easily :)

5-6 years ago, we took an acquaintance of :princess: out on horseback for a morning trail ride. She left her 2 Doberman's in her 1-month old Range Rover.

Bored dogs may become destructive. :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

This was demonstrated by the dogs destroying both front seats, and most of the rear seating area and dashboard.

I guarantee you'll remember cleaning up that mess when your best friend has a grey face. ;)

Wha, wha , what?!
That is really misleading copy. "Perforated semi aniline" is a description for leather not pleather! Not to mention every description in review highlights leather seats!
So...is this the first model year? Deciding between 15 and 16 now. I'm concerned about pleather- I don't want it looking all creased at 500 miles and I really don't want hot sticky seats.

Agreed...I could really care less about what happens inside the truck in terms of wear - process a deer, explode a pheasant, puppy daycare, or haul cow patties - to each his own.

My question is fundamental... Is it legal to say leather if it really isn't. Hint: I already know the answer...

I just was curious out in Mud Land if anyone else has tried to poke the bear and get a definitive answer on materials used. I hate being a sucker and I really hate being lied to.
