Anyone know of someone in Wichita, or surrounding communities that can/would install the lockers onto my vehicle? Have only found 1 shop to do it, and the price about made me go into convulsions.
Dont want anything done except but the install on the diffs, the rest of it I will be doing myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

prices around here will run you 150 to 200 bux for just a locker install if you hand them the third !
now if your talking a lockright thats about 75 bux
hope that helps

I am getting a locker also, so maybe we can get a few together, and get someone to do a package deal. I plan on pulling it out and giving to someone to set up. I think that Erik did this some time ago.

I have a local guy I used, I think Jobe can set up diffs as well.

Let me add, I would love to learn not to be shakin' in my boots scared of touching a third, so if someone is willing to teach how to do this for a "class" I would bring the keg of homebrew....

Also interested in the same offer for a front knuckle rebuild.

This is the time to save up and do gears also. The rear is not to bad but it sucks to open up the front axle for a rebuild, reopen it to gear, and then do it again to locker it. I know its usually a cost issue.

Kelly. I have SST for front knuckles. i'm sure i'll do a set sometime this year as mine are leaking on the wagon. that is cake! diffs are not rocket science but gotta have a good pattern.

Count me in as free labor. I did just buy from Molle a full rebuild kit for my front axles on my 68' so I am ready to go (less grease)

Thanx all, DPG in rose hill is who I do all my shopping with (Dirk). He doesnt do any installs of lockers. :frown:

Cheapest so far that I have found is close to $900 just to put them in the boxes nothing else, no compressor or line running. That is if you just drop him off the rig and come back in 2 days. If you take him the pumpkins its about $400-$450. I was hoping to find cheaper, and maybe a little more experienced, since this guy has only done 2-3 ever and never on a LC.

If your willing do bring them to KC I can hook you up with a couple of people. One that did about 4 arb's for me at once and set up 2 different 4.88's at the same time. was nowhere near $400.. and we have a mechanic in the club that could do this as well. Only big difference with an ARB vs setting up regular diffs is the airline. Bringing the chunk is the easiest way to do it. Get the parts and we'll get something worked out. You would be best to get a diff kit. Different years used crush sleeve vs solid spacer as well. need to know year of diff. and if you are planning on using a course spline vs fine spline i'd recommend using fine spline for strength issues. I've never broken a course (which is saying something) but did convert to fine spline before i ever broke. Have seen course break mainly by wheel hop and boggers used at the same time.

Kelly when your ready please let me know.. I will however not let you rebuild a stock 68 axle without going to disk brakes (unless you do some serious convincing and use a dual piston master). I will offer to help you swap to disk brakes and offer to help you find the conversion pieces. No need to rebuild the axle unless you do convert at the same time. otherwise your wasting the "kit". Would be best to wait till I get further in the garage and have the space.

I've done a couple diffs. I also have a brother I can call if problems arise(retired Yellow freight Mechanic). I have a shop with a lift, no need to remove complete axles, I would need a geanipig rig (like Kelly). If I get a couple under my belt we would then have somebody local in the club that can do diffs. The first few would take awhile though. (put to together, take apart, put together, take apart, you know the drill)

Erik-

Damn you! Here is my delimma. I know you are right. I don't have an arguement.

I just want to clean it up and start driving and I know the front axle seals are gone. I already rebuilt the front drums and bought or made new lines.

Sounds like I just made an arguement.

I am excited to start putting things back together on this cruiser, and..... well... ... damn you!

Oh, Craig, I can by your guinea pig anyday..... after April 15. Should we get a wrenching day on the calander? Maybe get a few to do. I can have my third out in hand to start with.

Sorry for the highjack.

Matt (eyezlee) did my gear setups going to 4.56's. I know he was way busy then, and not sure he is still doing it, but did a great job.

This is the link to the thread with lots of pictures. The second link is just to the pics he took for me whilst doing it.

Matt has moved to North Dakota.

You are the devil himself.

You plant this seed of switching to the dual, which I have to admit is smart.

So, to do this we need new brake lines to back, no big deal.

We need a plug at the passenger block, no big deal ( I think)

We need to convert the front ball and claw axle to disk brakes....(hmmm.... little more trouble, seal, etc.). But why keep it ball and claw I ask myself if we are going to that trouble......

So, I could swap in a newer axle, then convert to disk.....

then what is gear ratio for the new axle in from as compared to the rear? should I swap the back axle too, I ask myself.

Then, since I am tearing it apart should I put a mild lift in?

How about slam in a turbo diesel engine?

YOU ARE THE DEVIL.....

Eric Jobe will be be helping me set up the ARB in my 40 as soon as it comes in. We could set a a diff rebuilding / arb install / home brew guzzling day at my shop if y'all want to. Got plenty of room, access to just about any tool you'd need and about 45min east of KC. Let me know! Eric B.
