Does anyone have the directions for mounting a front ARB winch bumper? If so, could someone scan them and send them to me (preferred) or post up pictures of the manual.

I am asking for this because I have two concerns about my install. First, I want to ensure that I have mounted the bumper with the correct number of bolts and in the correct locations. This is stemming from a slight problem with one top monted hole. When I bought the bumper I did not get all the hardware (some was obviously missing) so I bought all new. When installing the front hole on the driver's side top rail seems to have either an obstruction (possibly requiring a different length bolt than the others or I may have a thread problem.

Secondly, I have read in some threads that you can re-install the tow hooks but mine seem to interfere with the bumper mount and do not sit flush. Is there trimming required and if so I am looking at directions or examples of how much.

Glen, I just put mine on the other day, here's what the instructions said. There were no pics or diagrams, this is all there is.

1. Remove bumper from front of vehicle.

2. Remove both tow hooks from front of chassis.

3. Lift bull bar onto chassis rrails and push in until mounting holes line up.

4. Fit the 4 M10x30mm bolts, spring and flat washers into the SIDE of the chassis and bull bar mounting holes. (captive nuts)

5. Fit the 4 M12x30mm bolts, spring and flat washers into the TOP of the chassis and bull bar mounting holes. (captive nuts)

6. If fitting optional indicator assemblies to bull bar fit these as per instructions supplied with indicator kit.

7. Place the original towing hooks on the BOTTOM of the chassis and bull bar mounting holes. Place the 2 packers, one each side, onto the lower bolt holes between the tow hooks and the bull bar. Using the 4 M12x50mm bolts, spring and flat washers, bolt the tow hooks and the bull bar to the chassis. (captive nuts)

8. Refit vehicle registration plate onto bull bar using M6 bolts, nuts and washers.

In step 7, the packers refered to are about 1/4" steel spacers so the hooks don't interfere with fitment as you are describing.

Good luck,
Doug

Thanks Guys for the fast response. I knew I was missing hardware, now I need to fabricate the spacer plates and I will pull the bolts and ensure the length and pitch are right for the locations.

I will post up some pics once I get everything buttoned up.

so what's the deal with the spacer blocks and the tow hooks? Why not just bolt the tow hooks to the bottom of the ARB? I don't get it?

Does the ARB come with any hardware for winch installation?

There's a lip on the support that interfers with the tow hooks- they won't fit without the blocks.

OK, that makes sense. I haven't mounted mine, both the spacers and the tow loops are sitting on the bench. I had planned on reinforcing the tow points on the bumper and just using those exclusively. Or winch out if needed. :hillbilly:

I mounted mine by myself. All necessary parts are provided along with the bumper.

You need to use the spacers to install the tow loops. They feet perfectly well. This is 1/2:banana: work.

Below I attached my only photo with visible tow loop.

Yes, although you may not use all of the items and depending upon the winch you may need other items. Case in point, mounting an XD9000 you will need to buy or fabricate some spacers to space the winch back a little but you won't need to use the control box gizmo that comes in the parts with the ARM. If you use a Hawse fairlead instead of a roller fairlead then you will not need some of the parts that come with the ARB (big honkin bolts).

If you go with a winch that the ARB is designed for you should get everything you need. If you go a different route then you'll more than likely need something.

Oh, and x2 on the ARB instructions. They pretty much suck. This isn't a real difficult install other than figuring out what bolts go where and what all the misc piece parts are for. The link above is much more helpful as are other posts here on MUD about wiring up the lights etc.

On the spacers...are those ARB supplied? I thought I remember those already being on the LX :hhmm:...Can't remember now but unless you are a serious rock crawler I recommend reinstalling them for extraction point use. The spots on the ARB are pretty poor replacements. As I understand it the ARB points are "ok" for straight line pulls and for use with a hi-lift attachment (original design?) to lift the front end but the tow loops are an all around better choice for winching.

Corsair,

You hit it on the head, I want the spacers (they do come in the kit) to reinstall the tow hooks because I have read that same statement about the bumper points.

I already have the bumper on but the hardware that came with it, I bought it used, was not complete. I posted up because I was assuming that I was short some items and I wanted to verify. I only had three M12X30 bolts and I four M10X30 bolts.

I have tracked down the part number for the bumper install kit and I believe this will solve my problem. I am going to order it to have "all" the install parts to include the winch mounting hardware.

What's the part number you needed for the spacers? Mine was missing spacers and the amber lenses. Who are you ordering them through? Thank you.

Tenn,

I have the part number at work. Do you have a 4 Wheel Parts close to you? I called them and they tracked a kit down for me using this part number.

As for the amber lens, You will need to order that seperately. They should be able to source it for you to. If all else fails, contact ARB USA and request the lense through them. I spoke with a rep this morning and they do not currently have the bumper install kits available but can order them. I guess that means they will have to get them shipped in from Australia.

x2 on what Glen says...You can order some stuff directly through ARB USA

The small, low profit margin stuff, like new lenses and what not aren't typically stocked anywhere because there isn't much, if any, profit $$ in that stuff. So, for the small stuff the distributors don't mind ARB selling directly to the public. At least that has been my experience.

Tenn,

I am going to ARB tommorow, I will let you know what I find out. I just spoke to them this afternoon and they seem like pretty decent guys. I will check on the price and availability of the lens covers for you at that time.

I also found out that they like military so I was led to believe that I will be getting an additional discount. Whether I get it or not I was prepared to buy the stuff at listed cost but a lower price would also be cool.

TomH,

Nice to hear from you, I haven't seen any post from you since the heated seat buy.

I could only be that lucky if they were to just give me the parts. I could definitely see it if I ws only needing like the two tow hook plates and maybe a bolt but I am looking at getting the whole kit and then a couple other smaller items.

I will definitely post up if they give me the ultimate discount. That would definitely determine future buys if it is their product or anothers. Customer service is a dying breed and that goes a long way in my book.

Glen

the winch control box relocation bracket only works on one model of winch anyway.. Better ways to do that anyhow.

You really need the signals, two plates and some bolts..
