Did you use a harness adapter or did you cut the factory wiring?

I put one in my GF's Honda and it works great. Like a 20 minute install.

They're still cheap Chinese units, wouldn't surprise me if you just got a bad one.

Ty to harness adaptor. I have a new one at home. Will test after work and report

I'm gonna cast a bit of thread necromancy here, but this is a few pages back and the first discussion I've seen on replacing a factory non-nav unit and I've got some questions.

I just picked up a 2003 that is non-nav, but currently have no idea if it's amplified at all. Is there an easy way to tell without tearing apart the dash? If I'm just going to replace it the CD changer/tape deck with a standard double DIN head unit are there any harnesses to worry about besides the SWC & harness, w/ CANBUS controls if needed? I have an older double din Joying head unit sitting in my garage that was in my 4Runner for awhile. It had a tendency to shut down after a couple of hours of use so I pulled it out. My 4Runner seems to dump heat behind the dash and that was causing it to overheat. With that said I never loved it so not going w/ an Android device is probably my move.

Amp is under the driver’s seat. The Android units are plug and play. I’ve had mine for a few years and it works just fine. Wish I had a fast boot unit but they weren’t available when I got mine.
Your standard double din needs the dash trim, amp controller and steering wheel controller. Crutchfield can hook you up for a simple install.

I have purchased and installed an Android unit from Amazon. I get audio on radio but nothing will tune. I can connect to my phone bia Bluetooth but no sound comes out even though I can control the audio apps through the head unit. Attempts to test audio off of preloaded apps like youtube have failed because I can't connect to my home wifi or the hot spot on my phone.

The fit of this head unit isn't great (it's a little big), and I'm not 100% I connected the amp power line correctly. Good news, it's about as easy as it can be to get in and out of the dash so I'll dig back in, probably with a different HU anyway.

Alright, got things sorted out. It was late when I buttoned it up the first time and since I heard static coming from the speakers on the radio, figured it was a configuration issue with the head unit and I could sort it out in the morning. After a couple of hours of messing around with it and some dead ends on google I found a youtube video where a guy had a similar unit to mine with the same symptoms. Amp works when connected via ANT wire from HU when radio is on. The problem is the ANT wire only gets power when the radio app was running, none of the other audio apps. So I reconnected the amp power to the ACC wire from the HU and everything is working as it should. Only problem is it sounds awful, and I have potato ears from years of shows without hearing protection, so I barely care but woof it just sounds like butt.

In a different situation than you - I have Nav w/ML speakers. Installed a bluetooth module but I'm also hearing raspy speakers and static. I replaced the amp and I only hear the amp power on in the beginning but not throughout. My speakers have been refoamed and all the fuses check out. Not sure what else to do at this point.
