Anyone up for Wheelin in Big Bear Saturday 9/24?

That damage is just little trail kisses. Nothing to worry about. I have done WAY worse and still kept my rigs going.

I need to work on my wife first in order to get the rig beefed up a little more. That's how it goes around here.

You need to bring her along. Then when you smash and break stuff you can say "See... I told you so". I have played that trick many times with the wife when she says, "Do you really NEED that part?" The proof is in the carnage.

No poser pictures?

GOld mountain is pretty easy if picked right line, my buddy's unlocked 80 with 35s got through without a scratch. JB however is a different story.
I used to say the same thing but Gold Mtn. is a lot more beat up then it used to be. It was the most challenging I have ever seen it. There were a few spots of difficulty that didn't even exist a few years ago. It was a LOT more fun then I had expected. There were probably a dozen spots that required you to pick a good line and really pay attention to what you were doing. Just a few years ago there was maybe 4-5 spots that required technical driving.

Hopefully I can make the next run out there. This one was definitely not in the cards for me, had to help the kid move into a new place. @Dragos80 just wait until you lose a fender flare up there. Then it will be 4+" of lift and 37's :flipoff2:.

On a serious note, if any of you are down in the Escondido area and ever need cruiser help or want to grab a beer feel free to hit me up.

Are you kidding me?
I got another tab open, checking Slinky spring rate, free height, and so on. Thinking about a replacement suspension kit and a 1" body lift.
And... yes, I have to admit it too. 37's

@Dragos80 You only need about 3.5" of lift to run 37's without cutting into the fender well with the proper bump stops. If you start wheeling hard enough you will find out in the stock configuration one of the limiting factors is up travel. Then you end up cutting out the old perches to weld in new ones, removing the inner fender liners, folding under an inch or so over fender, tubbing the rear, and scrapping the plate bumpers for the closest fitting tube bumpers you can make with your new welder and JD^2 bender. It's a vicious cycle. We all really need three rigs living down here in SoCal; one for high speed desert, another for the rocks, and one for expedition travel. Just good luck convincing the wife of such.

Yeah. Unfortunately I was young and stupid when I got married. I didn't know any better.
I chose to marry a woman. And she thinks like a woman and she acts like a woman all the time.

Now that I am older and wiser I would not make the same mistake again.

I think I need to stay away from rocks from now on.
If I end up lifting it 3" and 1" body lift I should be OK as far as tire rubbing is concerned (I think). But I would hate going into modifying the caster, control arm drop brackets, driveline would need to be longer, it would just explode from there.

Real conundrum here.

I mean should I just trade my wife for another rig? A 60? Another 80? Or just go wild and get a 70 series?

What would a wife be worth at this point? She's got experience already at bitching about the 80, so whoever gets it would not be happy with the trade. But, on the upside (you one can see it that way) she loves driving the 80 to the point she considers the car practically hers.
In this odd case, I think I have to trade myself.

Very true, although my buddy went through gold mountain 2 month ago and didn't have any issue on any thing. But yes proper line is very important and so it good tires.....and aired down.

I was considering taking my 100 for this run.
33s and AHC 2" lift. My 80 has the RTT.

I think my 100 would have struggled.

Probably not too much.
I was on 35's with a low lift and bashed a couple of times. I have lockers, Bryan does not, but he's got a higher lift than me.
At least you don't have a front pumpkin to worry about.

By the way @Bryanfzj80 do you have any pictures from the run?
Maybe it would show better in the pictures how difficult it is or not.

No I didn't get any good shots. my GoPro was on the Windshild and the sun ruined all the videos. but I did get a couple of shots of u in the rock garden. But to be completely honest i can't seem to figure out how to post any pics

Given you have them saved on your computer, you just click this button here and upload them.
The Rock Garden was epic. I thought I landed on Mars.

I ran it a few weeks ago in my 100. On 33s, 2" lift and ATRAC wasn't engaging so essentially open. I did fine for the most part, but I took a bad line on one section and ended up bashing up my skid plate and tearing a CV boot.

The section is called "hard corner" or similar on some GPS tracks and is at N34 17.344 W116 50.454
