Anyone tried making house chairs out of 80 seats?

I am installing aftermarket seats into my 80, but the OEM ones are absolutely mint and I am certainly keeping them for <whatever>. In the meantime, since just storing them seems illogical, I want to make lounge chairs for the garage out of them because why not. Has anyone done that? Just looking for ideas on what to mount them on - I thought of just strapping some wheels on, but they'll be way too low. So what - a couple of 2x4s bolted together and screwed on, or is there some "smarter"/more elegant solution?

I have a really nice bench seat out of a 77 F350 I use in my shop and as my camping chair.

I had a uline table with a broken wood top. I cut the legs down and made mounts to fit the ford bench seat. The legs don't weigh much- important if you want to move it.

80s seats aren't that great in the first place to warrant the effort of making lounge chairs from them IM0

They don't suit my body stature, maybe they are better if you're the size of a typical Japanese seat engineer
Honestly it’s more like, I can’t throw them out because they’re absolutely mint, I don’t REALLY have space to store them, so I want to use one in the garage as a working seat (I don’t do much “dirty”’work so it’s not going to get too dirty with time) and improvise to store the other one somewhere. Agree they’re not super nice otherwise.

I hear yah. I dumped 3rd row and front row seats from my 80, all in great condition, but couldn't sell them, couldn't give them away.

In the past, I've had an office chair in the garage. Semi comfortable to rest legs for a bit while thinking something through, and I'd guess about 1/4 the weight of a car seat, and takes up less space.

Office chair doesn't need to meet crash test dummy standards, so no heavy steel frame

I find them comfy my self but also I’m about as tall as a Japanese kid at 5’9” I’ll never be able to dunk but I fit in old Jap jeeps like a champ.

I will do it eventually. Mine are Mint and in the Attic. They need Wiped with Leather Protector.
I will use 2X4's as Frame with Ends like this then Sand them till Baby Smooth then Rub on Polyurethane.
Maybe Dark Stain to match the Gray.

Sold my third row seats for $10 on marketplace. The buyer told me he would be putting them in his boat. I don't get what everyone hates about 80 series front seats. They're satisfactory for my 68 year old body .

For me, I'm just way outside the stature range that's going to work in a Japanese designed/proportioned seat.

Pretty much every single vehicle ive owned has needed some sort of tweak to the seats of seating position.
My f150 is the closest to "comfortable straight out of the box" vehicle I've had, and it still needs some tweaking some day

This is 100% it. They just didn't build them for people my size, I'm not particularly fat, but I'm fairly tall and broad shouldered. My first gen tundra seats are better, and the second gen are better than those.

So not to let the thread die out without a “so what did you end up doing” post, I figured I’d share my final work. This isn’t for any show or anything - just needed to have it roll around - so I sliced up a few 2x4s, put on 4” casters and it was done!

Btw, the reason for all this is I got a good deal on a set of Recaro SR-7Fs. I’ve always ridiculed people with Recaros in their 80s or Hiace vans. I will never do that again. Never mind the ricer race boy look, these seats are so incredibly comfortable - and far more comfortable than OEM - I no longer have a backache after a couple of hours driving, and could easily do 10+ hours in them. An armrest also helps (OEM has a gap where the parking brake is, you have to reach a bit towards the center console - the Recaro has an armrest there).

No offense intended, because it's your rig and you're the one it has to make happy, but yeah... I hate the look of Recaro seats like that. They also don't LOOK comfortable to me, but I've never liked seats with a ton of kidney support. I'm sure the Scheel Mann seats are amazing, but I'd have to be entirely out of things to spend money on before I went there.

No offense taken at all. I realise they look ridiculous in anything that doesn’t have underbody lights and that doesnt make loud KSSSSSSST sounds, but hot damn they’re genuinely a pleasure to sit in. There’s a reason Recaro is recognised for what they do. (wonder if I can black marker the logo so it’s less obvious … ha.)

I know someone who got Sheel Manns. I haven’t tried his car yet and I’m quite sure they’re absolutely amazing. But these ran me probably a quarter of what he paid for them, so I’ll roll with it :D
