Did it help? Did it cause any issues. anything other then the bracket and altinator i need to buy? does it use the same belt? Does any of the other accesorys need to be changed or unhooked? Im guessing the gm altinator does more amp output . any other benifits?

Same with the gm master cyl for brakes. other then the adapter gm master and the conversion fittings for the lines. does it cause any issues? anything else needed to change?

There are a few bolt in Toyota master cylinders that would work fine, and not need conversion fittings. Search the forum on brake master cylinder. Many people up the master cylinder size for increased braking power for larger tires.

On GM alternators, the question I haven't seen answered yet is at what point does one need a bigger drive belt for it? At that point there is also the issue of needing a different pulley set on the front of the engine. Where can one source it? Otherwise there are a number of threads on alternator replacements. The biggest hassle is converting the wiring harness over. Not only is the connector different, Toyota has a different way of handling the alternator light. That makes swapping in a GM alternator harder.

If you don't need more Amps, rebuild the original alternator, or get a new Desno or Bosh replacement alternator. Most rebuilds from the major auto stores are poorly done.

altinator on it works. well i supect it works. tomorow i mail my fuel injectors out to be cleaned. cant wait to finaly get this thing running lol.
i plan to add a winch to the 4runner. i hardly ever got anyone to wheel with. and with only 32 11/50 bfg at on it i no ima get stuck. just a matter of when and where and how bad.
I cant remember what it was but when i looked up factory amps for stock altinator they wernt that high and seemed pretty low. how are they at handling a winch and maybe a pair of cheap offroad lights.

If you don't have AC, or want to keep it, I've seen a bracket for putting a second alternator in place of the air conditioner compressor.

There are also kits for upping the Amps of the stock alternator to 90 or more Amps, but I'm leery of putting to many amps through such a small spack.

its got ac. no belt on the compressor but the lines still goe pressure in them. dont no if it just needs toped off or what. truck sat for 6 years

Do you know what's up with this bracket availability?

His Vendor thread seems to have died. Are they still available?

LOL... that LROR kit is just a Trail-Gear kit. A few buck cheaper, though.

I was all set to order a hi-output Mr Alternator, but I think I'm liking the GM setup more. I'll probably go this way as well.

Thanks, great thread.

It's the route I have mapped out for my truck. Some day I just need to get working on the electrical system enhancements.

I just went through this debacle. It was mostly a debacle because my factory sense wire had an issue, causing the alternator to put out ~16 volts, which killed the last alternator and a pair of batteries.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyo...ket-cs130-alternator-what-did-i-do-wrong.html

Here is my summary of the install:

Trail Gear bracket works well, but its designed around the 12si. In order to get an external fan CS130 to fit, use an alternator from an '88 Caprice with an Oldsmobile 307 v8. This will be a 105 amp CS130 with the proper orientation to bolt into the TG bracket. If you would rather search by part number, its a Remy 91310.

It uses the same alternator belt as stock. (At least on my '86 22re)

The CS144 doesn't fit well as noted in the earlier post.

Wire it like this:

P- Phase to NONE

L (Warn Lamp) to L (Lamp)

I/F (Field Monitor) to NONE

S (Sense) to Batt +

As a side note: this was not the cheapest option. By the time everything was said and done, I had spent about $400 to put the CS130 in the truck.

Never heard back from him so I went with the trail gear one. Works just fine.

did u have to grind the back of altinator as i read in other thread?

I run a gm on my 84, it is worlds better then my stock alternator I had on my 82. My friend who I bought the vehicle from did the swap before I bought it which makes it extra deluxe. BTW, you can buy everything cheaper through LROR then trail-gear. They are trying to phase away from selling to the public and will actually send you over to us (LROR) to get parts. Just FYI.

Are you saying that TG is trying to get away from direct sales? That seems odd to me. If that is the case will they be taking down their website for external sales as well?
