well seems like its a hot topic now and almost every board i frequent has it as a hot topic with the recent prohib of the the swiss arms rifle.

so is there any firearms enthusiast here? hunter or just target shooters. long story short, its fxxxed but with the new age and the new social media tools, i think we have a chance now.

I'm not a gun nut, but I live to hunt. 4x4ing used to be my passion but hiking and living out of a pack has surpassed doing the same trails repeatedly. I'm so out of the gun side of things that I'm unfamiliar with a swiss arms contriversay. Is it the CZ they just prohibited? I'm a caveman when it it comes to guns, I have a mossberg shot gun for birds, a Tikka 30 06 for big game, and a cheap 22 for the kids to mess around with. What's up with the swiss arms?

the swiss arms thing is a long story but the short version is that it has been legal to own for over ten years as none restricted and now over night, it is prohibited. sounds like the cz85 just went prohib too. its sort of crazy like a natural disaster.

The cz I think you are referring to I've shot. A nice fire arm but hard to keep from rusting. A Czech friend got one cause it was his mandatory army weapon when he was young, he has to store it in oil to keep it from rusting...Easily converted to high capacity and auto fire...We once shot a rock at 500 yards and were able to make a less than a yard pattern, not terrible accuracy for such a crude close quarters machine....

I'm a bit American in philosophy but if the police think they need automatic guns like these to defend themselves why is it rationale that people like me should (who stand on the same side) turn in their weapons.....

Like I said I'm not a gun guy but stand on the side of gun rights, to me it's a tool, good people don't club people with hammers nor do they shoot them....

yes the none restricted swiss arms rifle and the cz858's are now prohibited. they claim that they can be converted to full. no compensation is also offered so just turn it in. the swiss arms rifles start at $3000 new so they are a fairly expensive toy. they estimate that there are around 2000 of them in the country. the cz's run fron $600 and go up and probably around 10000 of them. in theory, there is no record of who has them so they dont even have a plan on how to collect them.

if they were smart, they would have turned them restricted so at least they may get a record of who has what.

there are many more people involved now to fight it unlike the old days when you find out when the dust is settled.

Any semi auto can be converted to full with a little knowledge ! besides who need's a semi auto any way ? I haven't had any arms since I moved from up country but I previously had a 30/30, 30.06 ,12 gauge fully open pump ,and several .22's . one of my good bud's has A LOT of gun's , loads his own amo and has a restricted licence ! he target shoots and hunts . unless your into target shooting and playing hardcore I am not sure what you want a semi auto that any one can covert to fully auto for ?

That is what I thought you meant, just wanted to be sure. Nothing less than powerful organized dedicated ideology in defense of firearm ownership is going to thwart the current political policy and direction of federal policing policy. The USA has NRA, and people with hardline attitude about firearm ownership. Canada does not.

actually one can not convert any semi to full auto. not as simple as you think but thats is not the point here. the point is that the RCMP is making up rules without the approval of the elected officials. besides, just beucase you may not have a need for it, doesnt mean it shouldnt be. thats like saying unless you are planning to rip up the wilderness, you dont need mud terrain tires.

first it was full auto, then its semi auto, then its levers and pumps, till they work their way down to air guns. that is the pattern and its just matter of time.

This is news to me that the CZ is now a prohib. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
They are a fun gun to shoot. They should have just made them restricted and they would probably get people to register them. I highly doubt anyone I know is going to go voluntarily give up their rifle.

I am a pretty big firearm enthusiast. Medium long range is by far the most fun but I have a few decent weapons in the safe for just about everything.

Only have had a chance to take it to 700 yards. hitting 12" steel plates at that distance with it consistently with factory loads is pretty easy. Weather has been pretty crappy so taking it further will be for another day.

Actually as I stated previously I have owned numerous firearms, I previously was into guns in a big way. I have owned and shot restricted firearms, hunted moose , bear, deer, birds, target shot at gun clubs including trap shooting, when I was involved in trap shooting I reloaded my own shells . I also have hunted with bow and done solo pack trips up to 2 weeks off the grid . I have owned a couple of semi auto rifles and found them to be a lot of fun . A gun that can easily be converted to full auto should probably be listed as a restricted weapon and dealt with that way, as now this gun likely wont go away it will just go underground and become a larger pita to the government. I find it laughable when Americans comment on canadian gun laws .

I think the interesting theme is that the rcmp want to disarm citizens. Events like the high river door kicking and targeted gun confiscation where RCMP seem to act on their own with no repercussion are troubling. What are they afraid of? I don't get it, when's the last time an rcmp officer was shot in BC? My job is more dangerous. They should be more worried about their driving, that's the real killer...

Criminals will always have a way of imposing terror and killing, with or without guns. As far as converting guns to automatic and storing guns for the civilization breakdown is a waste of time. The guns will have long since all been taken and destroyed. The real fear will be of dying of dehydration and disease in a government holding facility built for our portection....

When did I comment about Canadian gun laws? I know barely anything about the gun laws to the north. Which is exactly why I keep quiet about them.

I did however blast your BS post that shows you're ignorant to any sort of process to convert a SA firearm to FA. That's including ones that look like an AK47. Firearm manufacturers specifically make modern sporting rifles difficult or damn near impossible to convert specifically to keep the guns on the shelves and out of "ban lists". Just because they look like their military counterparts means squat.

You've shot a few firearms and have gone camping.... Cool.... Good for you... Put it on a resume.... Hardly makes you an expert in firearms engineering.

Totally agree with waste of time thing. Not even taking conspiracy theories or the tried and true zombie apocalypse into account. Ammo is getting way to expensive now to blast through a 30 round mag in a matter of seconds!
