Hey folks,

I tried looking around the forums and then just doing casual research into it myself, but I was wondering if there are any good guides on how, where, and what kind of lubricants we should be using on our Land Cruisers. Thanks!

Quite simple:

1. NLGI-2 - This is used for ALL grease points and/or sliding surfaces. Moly additive is not needed beyond 3%. Hardcore crawler folks will say 5% moly for stressful areas like kingpins, birfs, etc.
2. Wheel Bearing Grease, any is fine, for any tapered bearing that doesn't live in a fluid bath.
3. Engine oil - viscosity based on climate, brand based on preference
4. Diffs/tcases - 80w90 is the general standard, additives for LSDs are subject to what diffs you have.
5. Transmission - fluid based on auto/manual, read the FSM if you aren't sure
6. Coolant - stick with red if you aren't sure
7. Rubber grease on anything rubber that needs to move

Don't overthink this stuff, internet folks love overthinking.

The FSM's are all available here or at Cruiser Cult. They have all the specifics for your vehicle. "Our Land Cruisers" covers a lot of acreage.

Frequency of lubrication with new filters is more important than brands of lubricants.

Any recommendation for the spline joints etc on a PTO winch shaft? The spline sections are open, no weather seals of any sort. I was thinking of some heavy marine grease which does not easily wash away or absorb water. I'd appreciate a grease type recommendation rather than a brand as I'm in SE Asia and it's not cost effective to bring stuff in from that side of the Pacific.

I have used the Redline grease for several years in my million kilometer 75. No more wear and tear in bearings or cv-joints.
