I am looking at a LX570 out of the mid west. Underside looks pretty clean but there are some hints of rust. Compared to a Southern truck, how bad is this? Will a good pressure washing and cleaning stop the rust from getting any worse, or will a rust prevention coating be needed?

In other words, what would happen if I don't do anything other that wash it?

I live in so cal so it won't see any more salt that what it already has.

Also looks like an oil leak on the PS? bump stop

Other than this, the truck is in amazing condition

Any input appreciated.

It lived in Ohio and Indiana for the first 9 years. The rust in the pictures doesn't seem to be representative of that.

Should I be worried? I am going to request more pictures of the rest of the underside.

No worries about that rust, but I don’t know what to look for on the AHC. It’s likely the owner(s) in OH and IN took some care of it. I don’t think you’ll have any further rust issues with it in SOCAL.

May have been fluid filmed during that time.

Ohio here - Its pretty easy not to drive in the most corrosive of winter here, if you are in the lower half of the state. If you simply dont go out the day after a snow, its no longer really wet roadways so the salt is just light dust. They could have just been good about hitting the underbody wash after barely getting chemically wet.

Doesnt look Fluid Filmed ect. Could have even just been a nice-weather truck...pulling the boat or family vacays. Lots of people have other work vehicles. Diamond in the rough there.

I wouldn't be concerned about that surface rust at all. It is superficial and easily cleaned up with wire brush and then repainted with a rattle can. Then covered with your favorite fluid film for long term protection if you wish.

I'm in NE Indiana about 3 hours NE of iwashmycar in Columbus, OH. I wouldn't mind helping a fellow LC enthusiast with additional an additional set of eyes.

Cheers,
Melvin

Not sure how to upload a video, but here are some stills from the video I received. Thoughts?

Hello, friends. I am on the hunt for an LC200, preferably 2016+. I shopped locally here in SoCal but after driving 4 of them, they are either significantly overpriced and/or beat to sh*t. I am from Upstate NY originally and know the damage salt can cause… I am looking seriously at two LC200’s, one in Idaho and one in Texas, trying to stay clear of the NE and SE. Interior on both look fresh. Very good condition. Undercarriage though, I am not sure what is too much rust. They look fine to me, but I ask for a sanity check from you all. I am having private inspections done on both tomorrow, but still want as many opinions as possible regarding the rust before I get on a plane and buy a truck 2000 miles away. I know there is a lot more that goes into the decision besides undercarriage; i.e. maintenance schedule, belts, etc. Anything I should be looking for in particular?

First four pics are from Idaho LC200, the rest are from Texas LC200.

I appreciate your time.

Every pic in this thread looks like not a big deal rust wise unless the car has very low mileage. If you live in an area with snow/salt fluid film it.

Stop stealing our rust-free Texas trucks!! This is getting ridiculous. No wonder it took us 2.5 years to find our mint example lol. Seriously though, none of these look particularly bad.

🤣🤣 I’d get one local if they didn’t want 65k for a 2018 with 180k miles. Thanks for the input though much appreciated!
