probably worth mentioning that it's best to know what one is doing when bending steel like that under heat. As in correct steel, correct temp, right cooling rate, etc, or you can have some seriously weakened bolts I would imagine. I'm sure you know all this, but others should probably not attempt this without a bit of research. One would rather not have the sliders fold in the body on a harsh impact...

Seeing as how they are just as strong as weld ons (or at least strong enough for what they are intended for), there really is no downside.


A majority of the sliders I see around are weld on.

I also don't believe that bolt on are "just as strong" as weld on.

The downside to bolt on? They cost more and hang down below the frame.

I can, however, see the arguement for having bolt on sliders on your nice, expensive Land Cruiser or LX:cheers:

Yes, we use polished alloy plate on top as the tread plate, cut and rounded on the edge to match the pipe outer contour.

Welding makes them a permenent fixture.

You have so many good ideas and products built onto your customer vehicles, I wish you would bring that stuff over here- thru Slee or however you do it.

*I am thinking of Joe Mort.'s & Simon's Prados and the brilliant ideas you fabricated -which I fully intend to steal for my 80 in some fashion if I get the time to do some custom fabbing! :)

Thanks, we always work on building a vehicle for a customer, not fitting parts out of a catalogue. We have a couple of nice projects on the go at the moment in the shop, and afew coming up preparing for our LCOOL Ultimate Expedition in June.

all the talk about bolt on vs weld on, we have relented and made a compromise for some of the older vehicles we do now, like the 80 series slidersteps we do, which have a weld on bracket for the front mount, to the chassis, which the slider then bolts to.
 
I like the idea of the two plate idea, I will probabley convert over to that mounting style before I get the sliders powder coated. thanks for pic ATS! looks like I did make my mounting plates a little wide :)

Then you can use hardened bolts...with the dual plate mounting method.

I love the way those tuck up tight to the body and I love the hybrid square and round tube design.

Just make sure they don't flex when supporting the weight of the truck and check the mounting hardware for tightness occassionally.
