RTH Belt Issues

Cdan from American Toyota 505-821-7052 hooked me up with all the parts I needed
Toyota Belt - 90916-02281-77, for a pair - perfect fit :hhmm:
New pulley - 8840-26090

Threw the belt in and tightened it. There is a clearance issue against the block and the coolant line.. :bang:

Can anyone post some pics that have their OBA installed??

I am going to try a shorter belt to se if there is a difference.

Thanks
Stu

This has been discussed on other threads. A shorter belt will solve the problem, since the idler pulley then won't extend as far upward. Search for belt number in other OBA threads.

Thanks Tom..

I am thnking about grinding off the corner..

Would that mess wth the cylinder head??

It does looke a bit different. Yours is milled, drilled, and filled on that corner like it was a passage or fitting of some type. Just get a 1" shorter belt and the tension pulley will sit much lower in the adjusting bracket, so it will clear that corner. Look at how much of the bracket is exposed behind the pulley in the new pic you posted compared to the old pic.

Inkpot, thanks for your feedback. It does look like mine sits back closer to the head. Hmmmmmm

I also grinded down that corner, got rid of the metal coolant line and just ran a hose to the intake coolant access point.

Onur,

Thank you. The coolant line is very close and that would have been my next concern

Much appreciated

BTW Onur,

What belt are you using??

Stu

Sorry it took me so long to reply to your PM, I don't get over here that much anymore. Too much time spent looking up stuff for the new toy at LegacyGT.com :D

Check out pic# 5(Attached) from 96r50 OBA write up https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/315929-york-oba-install.html
. the head on this 96 is different from my 97. Can anyone say why and will I do any permanent damage with a little grinding..
It does look like the head is different between your 97 and my 96. In this photo I am still using the shorter NAPA belt (you can tell by the teeth). After my update in that thread about using the Toyota belt (90916-02281-77) the tensioner pulley definitely sits a bit higher but there is still no interference with the head.

During my original install I was able to coax the metal hard line in closer to the block using a big screwdriver for leverage. This gave me the extra clearance I needed between the belt (NAPA or Toyota) and the hose.

I hope that helps!

Adam,

Thanks for the reply. I fully understand your new addictions.

I use to run a 04 wrx wagon - headers, pre cats deleted, downpipe, high flow cat mated to a Bolra hushback exhaust, Intake moded... Ran very strong..

I got a shorter belt from Autozone an used a large pry bar to nudge the metal line over.

Glad to hear you found a solution.

I haven't started any performance mods on the LGT yet because I fear it's a very slippery slope! It seems like Stage 1 can turn into Stage 3 pretty quickly if you're not paying attention ;)

Yeah I know what you mean. My brother convinced me to sell it to him after a near death plane incident...He wrote it off 6month later by taking out 100ft of guardrail,,,Air bag didnt get deployed even with the passenger frnt wheel stuffed under the floor board.

OBA Pieces

So after sitting for a while I started to complete my OBA Kit.

I decided to go to Kilby Store for the major parts and ebay for the rest

http://www.kilbystore.com/products-airboss-on-board-air-accessories.html

Hose kit - 35ft of hose was more than enough. 1/4" barb fittings was replace with ones from home Depot with larger internal hole.

Heavy Duty Filter

One way Check Valve

Install Pictures

I located the Filter on the passenger side firewall and the Manifold next to it.

The Line from the Compressor to the Check valve is a teflon steel braided line made at a local Hose Store.

From the manifold, I ran a 3/8" line to the Air tank mounted under the driver door on the frame rail.

From there, I have one line to the from bumper and one to the rear.

Oil Return Line

The oil return line was easy to run from the filter, around my washer bottle and to the side of the compressor.

Intake Filter

I sourced the 4" metal intake filter from Toolmart750 on ebay.

Switch

Last step is to wire up the switch.

My clutch came with a GM Weather pack plug so I sourced one from a local parts store along with right angled spade connectors for the pressure switch.
