hello everyone , I'm in Washington state, just picked up a 76 pig. My plan is to make it a good daily, I'm selling my 2010 f150 in favor of the fj. My immediate question of which there will be plenty I'm sure. Is I see posts about body panels, or replacement panels. I've seen some and have been told that bob, builds panels but can't get anymore info than that. Kinda looks like you retired? Or something. Any info would be helpful because just like every 55 I've ever seen I have some rust repair to do. Any ideas?

If enough people twist his arm at once, he might say uncle, but you'll need to twist it with greenbacks...I wish I had the cash back when he was producing.

Thanks guys, wow that kinda socks about Bob. Yes I will be doing the work myself. I will get pics soon. Although nothing to look at at this point. Bone stock. And rusty.

I may , make a few none friends with this, and I am sorry but I've built many vehicles, early broncos, porsches, alfa etc... and it seems like the prices for parts and I'm talking mostly aftermarket are insane. I keep hearing the words rare thrown around . But honestly window rubber is window rubber irregardless of if it's for a vw bug or a land cruiser. I understand business and that you need to make a profit, but seems a little extreme. As set of Springs for a lift 1200.00 dollars without shackles and u bolts? That's 4 times the price of any other leaf spring type kit. And those come with shocks and all necessary items to complete the job. Ok now that I got that rant off my chest. I sure hope Bob will continue to make replacement panels. I have heard they are a great product at an even better price.and there is definitely a need. And just so you all know no I'm not some newbie into the auto world. I've restored over 50 autos. Raced vintage alias. Built turbocharged vws I've had multiple series land rovers, fj40s etc..

Oh by the way please have a great day, I'm not a total ass, I just like being able to afford to play like everyone else. As far as throwing get greenbacks at Bob, I will throw them as hard as I need to there ready when he is

Supply and demand and because they can. If you played with old Porsches then you're used to being gouged. I think we all have had a rant or two, but in the end we pick up the tools and get back at it. Cost is truly something to think about before starting in on it. A lot of projects never get finished because of it.

Wish you good luck with it.

Hey thanks scrap daddy yah I get it, but I will come up with alternative before I hand my hard earned money to some of vendors. Guess it makes us use our brains a little more. It's all good

Hello Bob, I think that's awsome and how it should be. In no way have I been talking about you in my little rant. Other than if you where avaliable for some panels I have the money avaliable,

1. the rubber is like gold, and nothing fits like the stuff that is being made by a guy who spend gobbs for tools and research for a non-market...totally your option if you want to forego that- I chopped the ass end off my pig when I saw the price. Not cause it was a gouge, just cause I'm cheap. and thrifty...and needed another headache...

2. the metal is the same way...loads of effort placed into providing unavailable parts to a select few cheap bastards- as grateful as they may be, it's far from a lucrative operation, and no one was trying to get rich quick with it.

we are a rare breed

don't confuse that with being a potential for investment, tho...

their value is derived from their functionality, and the s***eating grin they put on a few deeply disturbed individuals ugly mugs.

we are the cult within a cult- don't be confused-
now is the time to bow out and take the blue pill; you are right to have angst and should proceed with great trepidation down such a pathway...

it is for those who choose to reach beyond the low hanging fruits.

***the alternative to paying for resources with cash, is with time and energy...

Lamb crusher, thank you for your eloquent response. And I completely understand were your coming from, here comes the but. But i think that with a reasonable price the investment + can be made back. I may have been brought up to be cheap, but over the years have seen the value in spending the money to do something right. I am like minded as far as the lunacy for these crazy pigs. They don't seem to be as rare up here in Washington though I can count 11 within a 50 mile radius, I've definatly delt with rarer autos, not to discount the fj55, I'm not picking a fight , just having a hard time understanding the insane prices on things.

you're mistaken. this is NO auto...be weary.
MY mistake in life, is believing that richness does not have to be enumerated in cash value...just aks my wife:doh:

I'm sure there are alot of pigs in the WA- crazy gravitates towards grey horizons and rainy days

and remember that fair is always biased towards one side.

I am only jabbinya; don't take it as anything; maybe some fair warning. Welcome to the 'sanity:beer:

Ok, I've only ever built a auto for investment purposes once in my life, and did very well. For the most part I build what makes me happy, and am not worried whether I get my investment back out of it when I'm done. I will build the fj55, and make it a great daily, but yeas I will probably bang my head against the wall a bit to come up with solutions to some of these high prices. Some may work some may not but I'm happy to try. And I am very thankful for this forum and the experience of those that have done this before me
