Another dumb question, towing a cargo trailer

and the post #41 the fifth picture shows where it connects .. it's WAY up there on the left wall behind the dash.... behind where the switches are.
 
I ended up putting the brake controller in the left pocket thing (for the japanese toll card), fits nicely, doesnt really wiggle around, easy to take in and out. :):):)

Added the brakes in today, feels much more comfortable with the rig not pushing the LX from behind when braking. Way less strain on the brakes. One thing I did notice was the the cruise control refused to come on when towing? Is this normal? Is there a way to override this?
 
A few thoughts (and you know what they say about free advice... ) :-)

  • The 200 definitely has reserve capacity to brake a loaded trailer in normal driving. This does not mean it also has reserve to brake truck and trailer in emergency or prolonged braking situations. I added brakes to my CDN M101 and would definitely have taken out a deer Sunday night coming back from Bend. Truck was around 7,700 lbs and trailer was in the 1,700 lbs range. Inches count in emergencies. A deer is no big deal. A person or another vehicle would be a big deal.
  • Owner's manual requires trailer brakes for trailers > 1,000 lbs. For whatever that's worth.
  • Don't set your electric brakes to be too aggressive. If you have a panic stop in a corner, you don't want the trailer to skid out. It should be braking but not skidding. While the brake controller may proportion the rate of force, the trailer brake system may not respond linearly. Set the control based upon emergency braking response for the specific load, not for around-town performance 'feel'. With my Redarc and 10" drums it's a surprisingly low setting to keep it from skidding in a hard stop.
