Does anyone know which end of the catalytic converter the EGR Temperature Sensor pictured below connected to on a early 1979 FJ40 - the input (engine) end of the converter or output end? I can't tell from the manuals I have.

Thanks

Green plug connect under the drivers seat (part of the interior wiring harness that includes the seat belt warning, parking brake, rear heater, etc). Goes through floor under drivers seat - that's what the rubber grommet is for. end with pointy thing goes into the catalytic converter.

it goes in the output end of the cat.

There's only one place the sensor can go. It's a port on the side of the CAT near the output end. It may not be there if you don't have a CAT that was cruiser specific.

Thanks for your response. One of the PO removed the CAT before I purchased it. The reason I asked was because I received an aftermarket CAT from SOR that was suppose to be for my cruiser but it has the tube for the sensor on the input (engine) end of the CAT. Given the location of the hole under the drivers seat for the sensor connection the output end of the CAT seemed to be more logical. I'll call SOR and see what they say.

Pix. Pix. Pix will save you lots of words, words, words.

There were a bunch of those CARB compliant CATs made by Magnafow with the sensor port on the wrong end. The mfg told me it didn't matter. I returned it anyway and found one with the correct orientation.

Should look something like this:

These are two choices for a Magnaflow: Catalytic Converters

You can find other, cheaper, universal fit if you want to just have it welded in.

I will also say there is no difference between the Federal and the CARB compliant versions, except the price.

This was for my 60 series, but it's the same for the late 40s. The temp sensor I sourced used. Same sensor, but the length of the lead may be different. Don't remember.

NOTE: Don't try and order a non-Kalifornia version, they won't send it to you. Believe me, I tried every stinking on-line vendor (including flee-bay). The Kalif-smog-nazi arm has a very long reach. Now, if you know someone in another State who might buy and ship ....

The info card that came with the CAT, that SOR shipped me, indicated it was made by Diversified Environmental Catalysts (DEC). When I took a closer look at it I also noticed that the flanges on it don't align correctly with the brackets that hang down from FJ40.

Since the exhaust pipe that runs between the CAT and the muffler is no longer available and has to be made does anyone know of a source for the flanges, with a 2" hole, for either end of the pipe? My local muffler shop didn't have a clue.
