Android free app with offline maps and breadcrumbs?

of course, not in no-service areas, my point.

But aside from that, the mobile hotspot is an interesting issue. It's not obvious that all phones/providers can do that. My current phone can do it, but Tmob was/is charging extra for the feature and somehow were able to block it apparently. I need to check that out.

Ya, that's a tricky one. But you have found an app that does that part right?

To work around the carrier tethering fees, there are a few apps out there. They seem to get figured out after a while though and then a new one shows up with another work around.

The only real solution is to root your phone. You can then use the data in your plan anyway you want. Which is how I think it should be.

I have now confirmed that Google Maps will indeed continue voice guidance after you run out of online connection. It did continue to give me appropriate guidance and even recalculated things as need be however when I got to the destination and tried to stop the guidance without data connection it got stuck.

does anybody know if a clean Android, not provider-related, unlocked phone, would normally be able to do tethering?

ah, a bit of positive development.

As mentioned, Orux does not do guidance by address, a problem if you don't know where your destination is on a map. But I found out that my World Navfree -which does- will work in the background of my Android OS and will still announce by voice all the turns etc while I'm running Orux for the breadcrumbs in the foreground. Not too bad of a getto solution if you have the memory and processing power.
