A rebuilt Amazon starter … failed(ing) after 5 months

When starting … the truck would start but the gear would still act like it’s engaged for a second and make the grind sound

Some things I noticed … the inside stationary contacts are different sizes? My oem one they are the same

And it’s not contacting the same on either side … look at the small points where it contacts on the inside

Also what made the scoring on the case?

And looks like new grease was used with some old still left behind? All the bearings are tight … I’m going to free up and see how that helps… and deck the case flat … and try to get the inside contacts a bit more evenly contacted as best I can considering the contacts are different sizes

Finished up the starter tonight

Finished cleaning out the shavings and dirt … cleaned up the contacts and greased it up so it was spinning free… had moly ep on hand so I used that as well as penetrating lithium grease to free up everything

When assembling I was concerned the amount I took off the case would effect the gears and press them a bit tighter …. However it seemed to spin freely enough

Bench tested and works great … and sounds so much better then it did before… it had a high pitch grind sound originally… that most likely was the scoring on the case and the needle bearing spinning over it

Now on shelf for “next time”
