Agree, but I still wouldn't refuse it if offered to me .... ;)
Nor would I but the fact that the front end looks like a Tacoma doesn't help. I guess I'm still stuck in the past.

So as to not clog up the other thread:

In all honesty, I could use a dyno run to dial in fuel so I don't have to eye the EGT gauge ... Need gears first though

What gears do you have now and what are you moving to?

There are three fixes for high EGTs, looks like you're leaning towards #1 at least for now:

1. Reduce load on the motor
2. Reduce the fueling rate
3. Increase the amount of air being provided to the motor

FWIW, I have to keep a fairly close eye on my EGT gauge. I still have some tuning to go.

Johnny, I've owned Diesels for quite a while ... Had one of the first high output, NV5600 Rams off the line and could get into dangerous EGT levels stock...

Gears are a while off and would be more for transmission happiness and drivability with a side benefit of EGT help.

Truck was stock with 29" tires and now runs 33" tires with the oem 4.10 gears. When the time comes for gears, I'll look hard at 4.56 or 4.88. For now, I had the tranny in 3rd until I hit highway speeds, otherwise it goes into OD, RPMs drop to 1500-1600 and EGTs head north ...

I am learning that the 13BT runs a bit warm from other diesels I've driven seeing 600-800 pre turbo with 6-7 PSI boot running around town. I can drop them by goosing the throttle a bit.

At interstate speeds it is not much hotter on flat ground. I have seen temps approaching 1100 holding almost 80 MPH (per GPS) on hills with 9 PSI boost. Not too bad for a 3.4L 4 banger ....

Gotcha. Didn't mean to insult with the basic rundown of EGTs

1100 holding at 80mph isn't bad at all. I'm cooler than that now with my 35" tires, but not by much, although I'm running much more boost.

How much boost can the 13B-T hold before the head lifts?

Not insulting ... I was jus splainin my experience. :)

I don't want to find out ;). I think the overboost light comes on at 10-11 PSI (have not seen it yet 9.5 psi is the most boost I have seen) and I am guessing 15 would be comfortable. But that would require a different turbo and an intercooler for which there is no room ... I am more than happy with the current power levels and I think a regear would make the old gal a little happier.

Running around in 3rd does not allow the torque converter to lockup which puts a little extra heat in things, but as it stands, the trams is over cooled anyway. I think I have see 175F once ....

Um. Sam needs to do an H55F swap.

Like yesterday.
You have mistaken me for someone with a helluva lot more $$$$ than I have. :)

Don't get me wrong, I would love a manual, but I will try to balance OEM with modest mods for moderate trail use. I'm on Jason's build list but won't have that until after Cullman. I do have the 33" spare on the door now thanks to @Cirbo.

The prior owner, as you know, went or great trouble to make it / keep it as nice as it is ...

That's why there is a cooler and an aftermarket gauge on it. And why I am not letting it shift up to where it wants to be.

I will do everything in my power to keep the trams healthy while keeping contingencies open.

Is there another Aisin auto that is a decent candidate for a swap?

Nope. Unless you want to bring one in from Australia for $7500+ in reman form from Wholesale Automatics.

A442 will not work with a B engine input shaft.

Not that will work with your engine and transfer case. The A442 is what was put in 80s behind the 1FZ until 96 IIRC then it went to the A343. The A442 might work with the motor, but is setup to fit the HF2A(V) transfer case.

Edited after beno replied:
You might be able to come up with a custom torque converter to mate the A442 to the 13B-T flexplate, but I am not sure if the B series engines have the same flywheel housing mounting pattern as the 1FZ.

And I am assuming reman A440s are NLA from Mr. T ....

All the more reason to do everything to keep the one I have healthy ...

There's always the Oldsmobile route that Ward's taking. :rimshot:
